GDPR has virtually nothing to do with cookies, these rules are under the 2003 Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. PECR was strengthened, a little, by the more explicit consent provisions in GDPR but cookie notifications have been law for almost 20 years.
But heaven forbid minsters and journalists do a little learnin' to know what they're talking about.
Won't make any difference, websites won't bother removing cookie notifications for the UK market vs. the rest of the bloody world, even California has equivalent rules.
Its just tories being tory - make a lot of noise about doing something - actually do nothing, they're not interested in government. They're not even a political party any more, they're just a perpetual campaigning machine.
For the record, cookie notifications get on my tits. But we're stuck with them.
