But people are concerned about the cost feeding kids

I dont know what's baffling about it. That's what the Tories are set up to do: talk BS about small government but use its coffers to fund private businesses...then receive donations from them.

would you honestly discharge all responsibility of decisions like this whoever was in power ? Be honest , totally truthful now Pete . Because I’d criticise any government who was in power without reservation.

Of course not. But all the grunt work, identifying suppliers, contracts etc etc are done by the Civil Service, that’s what they are paid to do. There are tens of thousands of them. of course a minister signs things off, but they do so on recommendation and advice by the same Civil Servants. I’ve no problem with the responsible minister getting a kicking, but there needs to be a line of responsible Civil Servants getting the same boot up the arse.......

What type of roles do you think the vast, vast majority do Pete?

The vast majority just do whatever job they are given, operational, process or whatever, the middle layers are supposed to bring management skills to bear and the seniors are supposed to make decisions and advise their ministers. there are nearly half a million civil servants. The number of junior roles diminish every year and the number of senior roles grows every year. There are about 150,000 at the bottom, 120,000 ‘executive officers’ 110,000 Higher Execs, another 58,000 in the highest levels including 6,000 Senior Civil Servants. But it’s got nothing to do with all of them gov, it’s all down to the poor schmuck who became a minister six months ago.........

lol

Most HEOs are about 24 years old mate. But you're right, they definitely make the big decisions and not the minister.

But you always fail to recognise that the vaaaaaaast amount of civil servants are council workers and staff. Or border patrol. Or field staff. They'd never get anywhere near a decision like this.
