Not really sure what anyone could do when u live in a steep valley with a river running through it!
I'm guessing here, but for years Councils have done drainage work, then there were cuts. Silt builds up, the volume of water takes longer to flow away and when it gets to the bottom of the steep valley, the drainage to take it away has also not been maintained and the flood plain floods more than it should, for longer.

Not a lot you can do if councils allow houses to be built in flood plains - the clue is in the name.
Nor if theres an unprecindented shed load of rain...all the more reason for Councils to do the best maintenance they can, not the best they think they can afford / get away with

Edit; I'd like to see a comparison of what Councils spent their money on 50yrs ago and what thry spend it on now...I think there's been some substantial core business mission creep

Priti Patel is trying to remove the Permanent Secretary of the Home Office, Sir Philip Rutnam, after he raised concerns to Cabinet Office about her bullying behaviour towards Home Office staff.

She has an awful, awful reputation amongst Civil Servants.

I used to work directly for Philip and Priti Patel is an absolute light weight compared to him. She's not in his league.

She has an awful, awful reputation amongst human beings.

Fixed for you.

This kind of stuff is the only amusing thing about politics at the moment. Like after the previous election with that woman whinging on QT 'Oooh I never thought this would affect me....' The more people we see like this the better.

I look forward to gammons being repatriated back to Braintree or somewhere, and hopefully clogging up their local GP with their bad back and lack of vitamin D

Thick and vicious isn't a nice mix. Her time in office can't be short enough.

Probably.

I stand by what I said though.

And that’s fair enough, but to the cosy civil service who then get confronted by a ‘let’s get it done’ minister it will be uncomfortable and even seem like bullying. If it were me they would be screaming blue murder within an hour, but tbh this is exactly what is needed at this point in time.....get shut of him, go down a level or two and promote those who will make things happen.....

Get anti counter terrorism done. The civil service is a check on the Apprentice style muppets we have in government.
