And that’s fair enough, but to the cosy civil service who then get confronted by a ‘let’s get it done’ minister it will be uncomfortable and even seem like bullying. If it were me they would be screaming blue murder within an hour, but tbh this is exactly what is needed at this point in time.....get shut of him, go down a level or two and promote those who will make things happen.....

Because Philip Rutnam is a complacent civil servant not used to "let's get it done" Ministers lol

It is fairly common for Ministers to be inexperienced and out of their depth, with naive misconceptions they swiftly end up shedding.

Getting rid of Philip is only going to end badly for Patel. Her effectiveness as a Minister will plummet if she doesn't get Home Office staff onside. The atmosphere is already terrible there because of her.

The minister of ‘getting things done’ lol lol lol lol lol
Another poster detailing first hand experiences and concerns to be confronted with a meaningless brexit sound bite. No wonder people lose their rag.

She really is.

I'm just reading she was trying to demand officials carry out work they considered to be illegal.

I would happily tell her no to her face.

I did a work experience stint in the DWP.

From that experience I understood that the phrase "work at your own pace" was created for those working in that department where I was placed (and the management).

No idea what they were earning but for someone wanting to 'work and learn' it wasnt exactly a positive environment...as soon as it was time for lunch they all left...returned on the dot...left work on the dot...no need to use a watch.

From the whisperings (and there seem to be many) the allegations surrounding this are mostly her calling people out on work ethic and inability to follow up in a timely manner.

As I say, my experience was fleeting and just a work placement but I wouldnt have hired a single person I met in that department...

I guess its all about personal experience.

You've already caveated yourself.

Work experience - so exposed to nothing serious.

Short time frame.

Wouldn't have met many officials.

Only at a single Department (Whitehall is vast).
