And let the devil take the hindermost.

To heck with the millions of people already stretched to the limit after years of austerity.....people who cannot afford another “10 years of pain”.

Just let them go to the wall....eh wot, tally ho and let them eat cake.

Talk about swallowing a madcap policy hook, line and sinker

One thing’s for sure, sir......Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Farage and the rest of them will comfortably ride out your “ten years of pain” much easier than the vast majority of us will.

Or maybe I truly believe that this generation will have to take the hit for a better future for the next? It's amazing... It's like trade doesn't exist outside of the EU

How much has political instability already messed with the country? You think more of that helps without any clear answer/path in view helps?

How is a General Election anything other than a path out of this? Parliament is deadlocked, and a second referendum would have to be fought with this shambles of a Government overseeing it and implementing the result. Only a GE can break this deadlock, at least without MPs being brave enough to just do what a majority of them want (cancel a50).

Corbyn is right to want one, and anyone concerned about the national interest should want one as well.

Quite.

And those members of this “generation” who cannot afford to “take the hit”.....I.e. the vast majority of them....can just go whistle Dixie.

You make the rantings of @joey sound almost sensible :pint2:

Absolutely shameful that he is backing the DUP's position. Like I know that most politicians will abandon their principles at the drop of a hat in pursuit of power, but the sight of a supposed left-wing leader supporting a bunch of right-wing religious evangelists is stomach-churning to say the least.

He is not backing the DUPs position though.

Labour oppose this deal because it doesn’t meet the six tests they announced ages ago; that the DUP don’t back it for other reasons is not the same as him aping them.

He definitely said that he opposes the backstop because there is a possibility it could create a border in the Irish Sea at some time in the future and mentioned that the DUP had been let down in the same sentence.

If that is not backing their position then I don't know what is.

Except that all it does is take time away considering that Brexit is supposed to take place in 3 months. When would a General Election take place in that time span? Let’s not forget either that Corbyns plan is to go back to the negotiating table with the EU and to ask for a deal he outlined last week which is completely preposterous and would be turned down (as it completely mirrored the Brexit dream)

There’s no need at all for a general election. Mays compromise deal needs to be reject, a50 needs to be extended and we need to actually figure out, now having seen what out looks like, if we want to carry on. It doesn’t require a general election, it requires MPs from all sides working towards a common goal rather than cheap point scoring and personal status enchantment.

If Corbyn had listened to SNP Liberals et al and called for a vote of confidence the outcome would be simply lose and unite the Conservatives (and probably the DUP) against him and Labour. Corbyn is waiting for the upcoming split in the Conservatives themselves before he can strike effectively for an election. Who listens to SNP and Liberals, they don't have a good record on calling referendums then winning or being in government, they have little tactical awareness for the long game.

Indeed.

He has started using DUP rhetoric and praising their stance.

And all he is doing is making himself look pathetic because the DUP despise him with a passion.

If it suits them, they will use him then discard him as they did with May.

I am a lifelong Labour man and was a Union activist.

Heretofore I have sat on the fence over Corbyn but gave him the benefit of the doubt.

But I cannot back a leader whom I feel is trying to curry favour with a party as reprehensible, corrupt, sleazy and incompetent as the DUP.

Does he not know of the scandal which led to the downfall of the NI government and which has led to the DUP’s dirty dealings being exposed in a public enquiry over there?

But more likely he knows all right but just doesn’t care.

Have to say, I partially feel sorry for her

It was an impossible job and it's utterly destroyed her

That being said, she did ask to be leader and she also stupidly called that snap election, so it's her own fault

And then made a deal with the DUP in order to cling to power.....putting her totally in hock to the very hardest of the hard. Brexit lobby.

That is why I feel no sympathy for her.

As for the two wings of the Tory party currently involved in tearing themselves and this country apart.....a plague on both their houses.
