Quite a high proportion of so-called centrists on here listen an awful lot to Joe Rogan, which certainly sets them apart from anyone with a clue.
I don't think "centrist" and "did not do well in school" are the same thing.

In principle, centrism is taking what works from both sides of the spectrum. The problem is that it's equally possible that a "centrist" is taking what  doesn't work from both sides. We need a coherent ideology to emerge in the middle, but that's hard when any given political media outlet is entrenched in one of the existing sides.

It doesn't make financial sense for the existing outlets to provide a sane version of "centrism" a platform. Someone like Joe Rogan? Sure, they make money off it, and it doesn't threaten the rest of the business model.

No but you on the left only ever wanna talk about the West.

Saudi stoning gays to death - western white mans fault

China hauling muslims into re-education camps - Western white mans fault

Russia invading over countries - western white mans fault

North Korea feeding POWs to rabid dogs - western white mans fault

The problem with those on the left (as a problem with those on the right) is that everything they read politically and historically is done through an echo chamber of authors of the same political leaning therefore your view on everything is always with red or blue tinted specs on.

A good example - a Green Party voting mate of mine who is very woke was astounded to know that in the days of slavery in the South of USA there were also black plantation/slave owners not just white. He didnt know that as they dont teach you that in school.

Im a centrist I call out the fools on both sides of the spectrum who believe only what they choose to believe.
What does woke mean?

Why is a vanishingly small number of black slave owners important to our understanding of slavery and how its legacy impacts us today?

yeah, you're probably right if it's an actual interest.

it probably depends on your age too, i'm guessing you might be maybe a few years older than me, but from growing up in the 'myspace internet age', grammar was a very tedious thing people used to use to win arguments/discussions they were losing - as like the last form of defence.
That's an interesting aspect to consider as well! I never understood the suggestion that poor grammar somehow undermines the strength of an argument. To me they don't inter-operate in that way. My take is that good grammar makes for more nuanced, detailed discussion. In written form I find the precision often assists in avoiding misunderstanding, and in spoken form I think it's simply more pleasant on the ear.

Maybe that's due to the era I went through school (I'm mid-forties now), where we were constantly picked up on grammar errors. Or the degree I studied being one where grammar was part of the assessment of my work.

Centrists are less given to willingly restricting themselves to their own echo chambers, however. Those on the extreme right and the extreme left are more inclined to share a common refusal to even listen to opposing views. The mere act of suggesting that they might benefit from listening typically gets shouted down by tribalist accusations ("nazi", "Marxist", so forth).
True centrists listen to pretty much everything, and I'd venture that sets them apart from extremists at either end of the spectrum.

Good post that mate. I think both Corbyn and Farage are idiots but I can agree with things both say whereas I bet some on here will discount 100% of either of what one believes because it doesn't fit their beliefs drilled into them by their respective communities.

Its like racism - the left/right use it for their own ends. If racism died tomorrow the left cant win votes from BAME communities claiming they're the party against "white privilege" whereas the right cant win votes scaremongering that "johnny foreigner" is coming to take yo job.

Once you nest yourself in the centre ground and "truly" become centrist you open your eyes to how blind the rest are.
