Grammar policing is widespread in infant, junior, senior, further and higher education. Teachers of course being renowned for their pro-Tory views.

A mark of maturity is the ability to have a mistake pointed out to you and NOT immediately take it as an attack.

How about you have a think about those points and get back to me in a PM later.
I didn't take it as an attack though. I explained why it was acceptable.

You wanted to point out my mistake. So I wanted to point out your mistake you by explaining why it was fine in the first place.

I've not felt "attacked" by you at all. And don't feel I've "attacked" you. If I have I apologise but I'm unaware where I've insulted you in any of my posts.

Centrists are less given to willingly restricting themselves to their own echo chambers, however. Those on the extreme right and the extreme left are more inclined to share a common refusal to even listen to opposing views. The mere act of suggesting that they might benefit from listening typically gets shouted down by tribalist accusations ("nazi", "Marxist", so forth).
True centrists listen to pretty much everything, and I'd venture that sets them apart from extremists at either end of the spectrum.

you don't have to be an 'extremist' to be out of centre on either side? it just seems to be a load of people patting themselves on the back for doing exactly the same thing as everyone else, but willingly giving themselves a typecast - which is also an echo chamber for centrists

i'm not even saying it's bad or anything, it's just odd that centrists think they are immune and above others on each side

Apology accepted. One of those instances where the tone of the typed word doesn't match up well with the intent of the author, by the sound of it.

Let's get back to slating Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng - something we all appear to agree on ?

well when you start to pick as someone's grammar, most would see it as that
I would suggest that speaks volumes about "them".

When I make a grammar error and someone points it out, I don't feel the need to lash out. But then again I also follow Susie Dent on Twitter and love learning about the etymology of words. Plenty don't. Different mindsets?

Quite a high proportion of so-called centrists on here listen to an awful lot to Joe Rogan, which certainly sets them apart from anyone with a clue.

I'm all for proper grammar/spelling.
I can't help but read every sentence exactly as posted, mistakes and all, like an incredibly boring Ron Burgundy so the grammatically challenged really can cause me some consternation.

By the way, this thread is absolute arse, bring back @davek, at least his trolling contains some genuine humour.

yeah, you're probably right if it's an actual interest.

it probably depends on your age too, i'm guessing you might be maybe a few years older than me, but from growing up in the 'myspace internet age', grammar was a very tedious thing people used to use to win arguments/discussions they were losing - as like the last form of defence.

No need to spend your time pointing it out then is there. Especially when what I said still made sense. I just don't get peoples need to point out other peoples minor mistakes.
If you were using bollocks as a collective that can't be numerically counted then you were correct anyway, more importantly you were spot on about the right wing appropriation of terms to discredit empathy in people. It's a sick ideolgy and their only attack is to move the argument to places of zero context or impact.
