Scum Tory with a scum budget, what else is new...

I look forward to his comeuppance when the financial black holes develop and he can't get anywhere near his vaunted surplus.

Oh, and in this context, "Tory scum" is completely correct - Gideon is one of the very worst.

Jamie Oliver already hailing this, will have to put up with his mug everywhere now telling us how great Osborne and the Tories are.

exactly.. its pretty clever really, they prob dont even want to do it

osborne or his advisors are still winning the press/public perception war by a million miles

its so similar to how blair used to absolutely smash aside hague/howard/smith etc as they were so useless at the public/spin side of things

To be honest, Gideon could have stood up, dropped his pants and taken a crap and still won the "war" against Corbyn.

They had been talking about this sugar tax for yonks, and were always hesitant about implementing it (think a lot of the Tory back benchers were against it) they knew it would be a headline grabber, and would be on all the front pages, Jamie Oliver, and the other campaigners doing interviews, so as you say "its pretty clever"

Sugar tax is the worst thing in history.

Changes to personal allowances and ISA's are welcome though.

It's a complete waste of time anyway, by the time it comes in (2018 IIRC) all the soft drinks companies will have had time to revamp their products with less sugar, they're in the process already, and it won't raise even nearly what the div has projected.

Gideon can throw out whatever gimmicks he wants today, the headline is "Borrowing up, growth down", however they try to spin it.

sigh...true, really dont know how/when he will leave? disastrous results in may elections...i think him resigning is only hope

As if the ISA's thing won't be abused by the wealthy though. Got money to spare and the Tories throw more at you. Live on the breadline and they'll take it away.

from the guardian, this really is incredible -

Small print alert: Relief for non-doms?

The chancellor appears to have thrown a bone to non-domiciled individuals who are being forced to pay tax in the UK.

Last summer, George Osborne announced that non-doms (whose tax residence is overseas) will be subject to UK tax law if they’ve lived here for 15 of the last 20 years.

Today’s budget statement (page 99) states that this will kick in from next April:

Budget 2016 confirms that non-doms who become deemed-domiciled in April 2017 can treat the cost base of their non-UK based assets as being the market value of that asset on 6 April 2017.

And that means they could avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale of non-UK assets, even if they bought them two decades ago!

David Kilshaw, private clients services partner at EY, says this is win for non-doms.

He writes:

Until today, it looked like they would pay tax on the growth in those assets since they acquired them, even if that was 20 years ago. Hidden in the Budget documentation is a significant concession for these individuals in the form of “rebasing”. Effectively, this means they will only be taxed on the growth in value after 6 April 2017.

“Non-doms will want to understand the detail behind this relief, and quickly, so they know whether they should sell assets now or wait until April 2017 and potentially benefit from a tax free uplift for their foreign assets.”

Good news for non-doms!! </sarca
