Current Affairs The "another stabbing in London" thread

That’s just turning your back. Kids are going to be killed or locked up through inaction. If the answer is to ignore it because it doesn’t affect you then London is screwed.......

I'm not saying to ignore it, as I'm sure it's not being ignored. I'm saying it doesn't warrant the widespread fear and terror you're trying to spread. For the average Londoner, this is irrelevant. For the police and the direct communities, it's something that needs eradicating. Big difference.

This is not about fear and terror. It’s about out of control crime that will haunt those who are caught up in it. Not caring about crime only ever allows it to increase.....I find it strange that those of us who don’t live in London seem more concerned than those that do.......

What do you think is causing this knife-crime epidemic?

As I've said, air pollution causes far more deaths and hospitalisations, and you seemed particularly reluctant to do anything about that in another thread. Swings and roundabouts isn't it? This doesn't affect the vast majority of Londoners (unlike air pollution), and so whilst I'm sure it is being addressed in communities that it does affect, for most of us there's nothing we can do. Would you be happier if we virtue signalled and sent thoughts and prayers on social media?

I’m not into virtue signalling, I’d be happier if you demanded that the knife and the moped thugs were dealt with.....

I'n not convinced that London is much worse than Liverpool in this regard. There's been loads of stabbings reported in the Echo over the last couple of months. Today's Echo headline relates to a 17 year old stabbing and murdering a 16 year old yesterday.

Only 9% of crimes end with suspects being charged or summonsed in England and Wales, Home Office figures suggest.
In the 12 months to March, 443,000 crimes resulted in a charge or summons out of 4.6 million offences - the lowest detection rate since 2015.

Shocking eh

Though that's all crime - this thread is stabbings. That article references;

The data also showed:

  • Knife crime up 16%
  • Robbery offences, including muggings, up 30% - 77,103 cases were recorded in the 12 months to March. In February, the BBC reported that the "rich pickings" on Oxford Street in London's West End had made it a hotspot for robberies and ride-by moped thefts
So not just local youths vs local youths/drug wars then as some suggest!

But surely it's obvious that criminals need to be caught, knife crime or otherwise.
