Unsurprisingly Joshua gardener the lad who attacked a car with what was reported as a ‘zombie knife ‘ has had his sentence increased to 3 1/2 years after the COA ruled it unduly lenient.

@peteblue @Bruce Wayne @PhilM

Tagged you fellas in as you discussed it . I think he initially got a suspended.
I'm sure I said on here that I would be surprised if the CPS didn't content the sentence as suspended for a Sect20 is nothing short of madness, let alone lenient.

You did and I also posted I considered lenient and thought it likely it’d be increased on appeal .

Ultimately I see it as a positive , a lenient sentence appealed and increased . It does seem as if it’s working .

It is and ultimately that's what we have the Appeal Courts as sentences can go either way: unduly lenient or unduly harsh. What is needed is consistency.

It would be nice if the original judge had a bit of competence.

It’s time that when sentencing, that judges imagined themselves or their family being in the position of the victim, cretins like this knife wielding idiot may just then be taken off the streets.......

This is just not on.....stabbed in the back...

What the hell is going on in that cesspit you call London.....

Its completely unacceptable, and whoever did that deserves forty years and then an eternity in the flames.

As do the people that cut the policing budget by 25%, when London's population is rising and when there is an ongoing problem with terrorism.

Of course. Blame the government. They stuck a knife in her back. Until people get really upset about these things it will only get worse. Kids with knives, kids who have no morality, no adults who get upset but blame it on the government, anyone but themselves, London and its people are sick......

Speak for yourself please Pete. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_London if you compare the data on a per capita basis with other cities in Britain, London is no more dangerous than Liverpool. Of course, you'd stop short of trolling Liverpool with your faux outrage as you pick your targets.

The person who did this is to blame, and should be punished extremely severely. However why is it that the government continues to get a free pass from you, when the effects of the cuts are so obvious that you started a now 32-page thread on the subject?

Yes. Let's all become even more emotional, but then do nothing whatsoever to change government policy or attempt to understand the problem in the first place.

That always works.

no adults who get upset but blame it on the government, anyone but themselves

Can you find a single example of a post here where you've taken personal responsibility for anything?

As @tsubaki rightly mentioned, the person or people who committed to crime are ultimately the blame for another tragic death and no one is saying otherwise.

Yet, let's not be ignorant of the elephant in the room. I'll give you a layman's example of how numbers of boots on the ground has changed over time.

Let's say in the 80s or early 90s, on nights from a nick in Liverpool there was at least sixteen on parade: ten on the beat and least three cars double manned.

There was six stations in South Liverpool, with similar ratios based on their patrol area, so on nights you can work out how many cops were on patrol at night.

Now? There are two nicks covering the same total area and you'll be very lucky to get ten on a shift from each station with huge areas to be covered on patrol.

No one patrols the beat and they are simply on response, which removes very little flexibility for pro-active patrols. This is with a growing population as well...
