Those of you not living in this country simply just don't get how much against a banishment of guns the right wing's stance is on this topic.

We struggle to get stricter gun laws passed because of the right wing who are representing their constituents.

I said it earlier in the thread. States in the south would vote to secede from the United States before they would vote for banishing guns. I am not exaggerating.

Although, TBF, can't say how much I appreciate the work of Charlie Daniels here. Just imagine how many would have died if not for his effort telling Iran and all how harbor terrorists that America won't put up with such nonsense. Fortunately we only had 50 or so who died.

The gun problem in the USA is part of its growing up issues. They went through the have a gun to keep the British out period, then they had the wild west and six-guns. If they want to hunt and shoot, fine, make it single shot rifles and two shot shotguns, not fully automatic assault weapons (the clue is in the name) or multiple shot handguns. That way they can keep guns but not have enough firepower to take 49 lives in one sitting. Until the people and the Politicians grow up or grow a pair, multiple deaths will continue. If the USA is happy with multiple deaths then fair enough, it's not our business nor our lives, but if they want it to go away then platitudes from politicians will not do it, it needs action.........

I wasn't necessarily trying to politicize this, but @The Esk was saying that it will take strong politicians to make such a change happen, and well, frankly, that is over simplifying the issue in my view. Politicians represent their constituents and hopefully their constituents wishes. Having lived in the south for long stretches, I can assure you those politicians are representing the majority of their constituents with regards to guns.

With respect I don't think it is an over-simplification for politicians once in a while to show leadership on certain issues.

A move to ban the right to hold a gun is in my mind analogous with the start of the movement to ban slavery - it's hugely unpopular to begin with but it has to be done because it is the right and sensible thing to do.

It will take a period of adjustment and won't solve problems overnight but in 20 or 30 years there'll be a different mindset and acceptance of it.

But it takes leadership to start it.

Anyway, apologies for entering into a US political minefield, I'll stop now.

Neither party will touch this; it would start as a fringe movement, with support from a specific group (i.e., Black Lives Matter). But I think the more likely approach is specific restrictions, like Pete the sot has mentioned.

I think you're obviously correct, I spent enough time in the US to realise that, but given I'll likely spend several months a year living there I'd like it sorted out please before I move. ;)

All too willing to have a pop at the Jews mind. It's these mad conspiracy theories that brought on the rise of antisemitism in Europe.
Well, from my point of view, the antisemitism never stoped, but was continued under the US rule. Look up "project paperclip", where the US brought thousands of nazi high ranking members to the states, with out persecutions.
Not too speak about, the EU, and the copy of the 3 reich strategy. Where only european "stock" is allowed.

Im just saying, that you do not have too be german too be nazi. It is an ideology that may be addapted by any soo called "group", and at that some "unnamed" state in the middle East, is running their own genoside, in the same way germany did it, towards them self.

Just saying.
