Why did the police not search the car first or at least see if there were any occupants or firearms.?
Surely seeing the children would have deescalated the situation.
They then followed him to the car guns raised not knowing if he was going for an ID or something else.
Hope the truth comes out quickly.
Sickening to watch.
Poor policing/training, guns everywhere, racism in some instants... It's an awful combination

The prevalence of guns in the US means that every single police encounter is a potentially lethal one. Even if the suspect is unarmed, the cop themselves has a gun, so going hand to hand with someone risks losing control of their own gun. It makes for scared cops, understandably reluctant to go hand to hand, and lose the advantage they have.

If I lived in the US, I would tell my kid to comply 100%, no matter how unreasonable, incorrect, racist, or out of line the cop was, the time to argue is the next day at the station with a lawyer.

But knowing you‘re not gonna get 100% compliance, police training has to be better than this. The car should have been searched. There were multiple cops on the scene who should have been better trained to use non lethal force, and incapacitate the guy.

These incidents will happen again and again, until a truly 100% effective non-lethal weapon is produced (tasers are around 55 - 80% effective, from an article I read), or until the US comes to it’s senses on it’s second amendment - possibly the worst bit of legislation ever written.

Watch the second video. The officers on scene should have been able to detain Blake and get him cuffed, or they should have used all of their body weight to hold him down.

poor tactics overall and hopefully Blake will recover fully from his injuries

George Floyd was complying.

paralyzed from the waist down because some idiot cop with 2 months training over reacted.

Very young child wondering about, horrendous

There are so many guns in America that if a police officer approaches you, you need to assume they're already considering that you're quite possibly an armed threat to their lives and, as such, you should shoot them immediately before they spook and shoot you.

I don't know about "need." We aren't that crazy yet.

Xi Jinping Rouhani and such like cannot believe how much propaganda American Police regularly and freely give to them, so very damaging this on the world stage.

Problem is, if they leave that another 2 seconds and the guy turns around with a gun, then they're possibly dead police officers.

That's the context for me. In a land where everyone and their mother is walking around with guns, I can't possibly blame the police for acting as they did.

The blame, for me, lies with the guy ignoring orders and walking away and reaching for something in his car when a gun is pulled on him. If he followed the order, that chain of events doesn't happen.
The blame for me, lies with a society that has so many guns that it could be reasonably assumed that the guy was going to grab a gun from his car.

Countries which don't have the general public walking around the streets with assault rifles, don't seem to have police walking around pumping bullets into the general public. It really isn't rocket science.

It's an amendment to their constitution that allows people to carry guns (which are totally ineffective in a militia when the govt have drones, tanks, missiles etc anyway), time to make another amendment to it.

This really, you have to be an idiot to try and fight them and/or run away. The cops don't know if he is armed or is running to a place they have a weapon.

The videos of the shootings and killings in Kenosha, by a teenage member of an armed militia patrolling the streets, are absolutely nuts.

If you have dozens of civilians walking around the streets armed with assault rifles, intent on doing the Police's job, people are going to die.

Thank Chris we don't have the same gun issue here. All of those "statue defenders" turning up to Westminster with AK47s, it doesn't bear thinking about.
