17 year old white supremacist vigilante.

Having watched the footage several times, I fail to see how this was premeditated murder. It looks like a clear case of self-defence to me. The lad is being chased down the street by a mob. He trips over, is on the ground and vulnerable.

Thug number one tries a running drop kick to his head....

Thug number two tries to smash him over the head with a skateboard. He gets shot in the chest for his troubles and dies. Oh well...

Idiot number three, despite seeing his pal get shot, puts his hands up in a temporary moment of sanity, before changing his mind and attempted to attack/grab Rittenhouse. He gets shot in the arm.

People finally get the message and back off......

Lesson of the day.....Don't attack somebody with an assault rifle.

or dont sell AR15s to 17 year olds and let them travel out of state and go looking for trouble with the encouragement of cops.

Yes, that would certainly be a good example of the idiotic statement that the US right wing would come out with.

Unless I'm missing something, the law has allowed a 17 year old white supremacist to walk up to a black rights protest with an assault rifle, completely legally, get his head nearly kicked in and kill in "self defence" right?

I'll look at video later but it looks on surface of it to be yet another situation where American gun laws have caused the problem and yet aren't being the primary concern to discuss.

gun laws have exacerbated the problem.
Racism caused the problem.

is it legal?

Am I an expert on US gun law? No.

But self defence is legal.

If you attack someone to their head, that's an immediate threat to their life. If you attack someone when they are on the ground and vulnerable, that's cowardly.

What if it was you on the ground..... Straight ahead, somebody is taking a running drop kick to your head....somebody to the right of you is just about to follow it up with a skateboard to your head..... and if they fail, there is a larger mob behind them to finish you off.

its the travelling that is going to make a self defence claim not very likely - well, that and having no business being there
I've only had a brief look, but the law in Wisconsin is base on the Castle Doctrine where you have a duty to retreat and can only use lethal force in SD where..

"the person defending themselves 'reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm' to their person."

While there's many other mitigating circumstances to consider, the fact he's running away, trips and is then attacked/apprehended* means he could claim SD.

The fact that he's travelled thirty minutes or from another state doesn't automatically negate his right to do so. Still, he's not bloody helped himself has he.

*Depends on perspective I guess.

Why carry a gun if you dont intend to use it? Guy is a white supremacist piece of [Poor language removed] and shouldn't have been there in the first place..his intention was clear, to kill protesters. End of.

that applies to the protestors far more than it does to him though - they were after all in their city when this bloke pointed a gun at them.
