Oh definitely. Simply doesn't happen in the UK.

The issue with this one, for me, is guns, not racism. They should be protesting about guns. The reason a police officer in the US can reasonably fear for his life in that scenario.

Aye, I don't think this is a racial thing either. Just good old fashioned mad gun culture

There was a clear threat to their life. A suspect ignoring instruction and reaching for a concealed area.

If that video ended with the suspect turning round and shooting the cop in the head, everyone would be saying "why didn't the cop shoot".
We disagree that those actions constitute a clear threat to their life.

I agree that they warrant some action, such as being tased or restrained, but not lethal force.

Is there a strong chance in that scenario that the cop is 1-2 seconds away from being shot in the head, yes or no?

Nah to be honest I can see what he means. I don't agree like, mainly as people getting shot is a bit grim.

No, because you have to assume that a) he is armed b) that he is prepared to shoot the cop in the head c) he can do that before the cops who already have weapons drawn will be able to respond.

There is not a “zero chance” but I do not believe it rises to the criteria of shooting him with lethal rounds.

And I will repeat, I especially do not consider it a reasonable response when there are kids close by.

Nothing like him. The opposite in fact - I think their gun laws are abhorrent and they shouldn't be sold to private citizens at all. Basically the UK has it nailed.

Right, well I just think you're spectacularly wrong and I'll leave it as that.

No you're not to be fair. It was a rubbish word pun and I apologise.

It will interesting to see if any or all of the officers were wearing body cams. When the video begins, the situation is fairly calm, and the officers are sitting down talking to him. Then, something occurs that causes all three officers to draw their guns almost in unison. Any body cam footage will almost certainly give some insight into what was done or said that caused the situation to escalate so quickly.

We will need to hear from the officers themselves if there was something unseen on the video that meant they felt the shooting was justified.

If I lived in USA I'd own a gun.

If someone broke into my house I'd shoot them without hesitation - anticipating the likelihood they'd have a gun.

Guns are bad. Mmm'kay.
For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.

Conclusions: Guns kept in homes are more likely to be involved in a fatal or nonfatal accidental shooting, criminal assault, or suicide attempt than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense.
