How does poverty make you want to shoot people? I thought the problem was guns, not poverty?

If statistically minorities commit most gun crime which they do, then more minorities are going to be locked up. It's not rocket science

Hmmm, let's see. Desperate person in poverty plans a robbery, wants maximum impact, has access to a gun. Do you think they will take a kitchen knife?. Now, something goes wrong, gun goes off, person killed. Is this as likely with a knife?

Also, your figures don't specify some important points. Does 'Gun Crime' mean homicide, or a crime where a gun was used even if no shots were fired?

In the post with the stats you use the word 'murder' whereas the stats say 'gun related deaths'. How many are actually murder? How many are self defence, or suicide? The stats make no distinction, so to take all as murder is somewhat unfair.

I think the fairest assesment of your line of reasoning is that you are being disingenuos. Willfully or not is another question.

So you think their crimes are a gentic disposition due to their race, rather than a social position? Just want to clarify how racist you are

"How does poverty make you want to shoot people"? Poor socio-economic conditions = higher crime levels; sadly this statistic is pretty much true in any society anywhere in the world; regardless of race, of which you are insinuating.

Back on topic, what makes the USA different, is the ready availability of guns for desperate people to commit these crimes. This ain't difficult to understand, FFS.

What would it take for the US to change their gun laws?

It seems like it will never happen. If the hundreds of mass shootings haven't caused the lawmakers to change tact then I don't see what could happen to make them change the law.

If I could, I would vote for any presidential candidate who was able to promise gun laws would be completely be reformed, Democrat or Republican.

Also pretty sickening to see Mr Trump hasn't acknowledged that the problem lies with the law and instead put the focus on unproven mental health and video games theories.

Time and time again it's saddening to see how many innocent people lose their lives like this.

Isnt the whole point of the 'right to bear arms', to prevent the government from taking over the people completely and undemocratically? The people have arms so that they can fight back.
Yes, but since the government have drones, stealth bombers, cruise missiles, nuclear weapons etc, even a million dumb arse Yanks with a cupboard full of AK47s each wouldn’t stop them.

Unfortunately most Americans are too thick to realise this and just obediently cling on to their second amendment.

Finally a bit sense

I too know people who own guns. I've shot hand guns myself, too

I've lived in Chicago - one of the most violent cities in America

I've never seen a shooting. I've never been threatened with a gun. I don't anyone who has, including my wife who was born here

The notion America is the wild west is just so stupid, genuinely thick. Why the hell do so many Brits come out here on holday if the streets are so unsafe?

And why, even in spite of Trump, do so many people want to move here? As someone who's gone through the immigration process, the queues for Green Cards have never been longer
Hmm. I keep reading that Chicago has some of the tightest gun laws in the country, yet also has among the highest rate of gun deaths.
It seems you may be disputing this?

What's that got to do with guns?
Nothing but I didn’t want to start a “domestic terror attack that didn’t use guns” thread as I try to avoid spamming the forum with little used threads.

I could have posted it in the Trump thread since his defense counsel stated "In this darkness Mr. Sayoc found light in Donald J. Trump." but I doubt you would have liked that either.
