what?
Each candidate had a job in that debate.
Pence's job was to win over independents. He didn't do that. He had to stop the enormous slide in Trumps women vote, he failed at that too.
Harris's job was to keep the ship steady and avoid any controversy. She succeeded.
Neither performance will effect either candidates numbers and as Trump/Pence are behind, Pence lost.
Also he stood there with pink eye and a fly in his hair patronizing the moderator and dodging all the questions.
I feared a good Pence show but he didn't deliver.

I'm backing Biden and generally like Harris - but with my objective hat on she came across as unlikeable and elitist, whilst Pence came across as a slightly boring adult.

On balance, Pence won it for me. But not to the point it'll change anything.

I think your analysis of it is a bit subjective based on existing bias tbh. I get it, people will support their own candidates, but yeah, Pence edged it in my eyes.

There's no debate. There's nothing. There's wummery and arguments. I have yet to see you make an actual post in this forum that would fit what the forum was intended for. Also welcome to ignore you non-entity.

Absolutely loads in the C-19 thread and in this thread alone

All the bit in bold shows is that you are incapable of rational debate on a polarising subject. That reflects more on you than me.

He battered himself. Biden just had to stand there and look like a functioning human being to win by a landslide

Yep pretty much. Biden with his repeated "here's the deal" catchphrase did himself no favours (in technical terms it was a no score draw in terms of pointscoring) but Trump was so off-putting it didn't matter. Unlike 2016, there's no benefit of the doubt anymore - every swing voter back then now knows full well he's a lunatic and that debate confirmed it.

Agree with this too - and ultimately, it won't really impact the race. It's all on the main two.

that's fair enough and I'm willing to concede that my opinion might be a bit subjective based on a bias. Hard not to have that bias living here!
I'll take the argument that Pence may have won on the night, but I think Harris managed the night better for her overall campaign if that makes sense.
The swing in women voting for trump in 16 and Biden now is huge, Pence failed to do anything to address that. And not answering the question about a safe transition of power was disqualifying for me!

It does and that's true. Biden/Harris just have to not make any mistakes at this point, and she didn't.

But as I've said before, I'd like Trump to be absolutely smashed, so it's annoying to settle for "just" a win for Biden.

yea, I try not to think what a ticket like Warren/Booker would have done to Trump and Pence.

Educate me LL.

Does calling the President by his name, Trump, Donald Trump, in that text kinda goes against protocol? I always thought a President is referred to as Mr President, or President Whoever.
Yep, think in the past things in print usually tried for civility, at least of the “with the greatest respect to the right honorable gentleman” tradition.

But POTUS was just on a tv show calling Harris a monster so guess we’re kinda past the Queensburry rules of this particular fight.

With one glaring exception for me - his treatment of the moderator. Pretty clear gender difference in the after polls as well so don’t think I’m alone.

That’s fair enough but he did have the racist beatneck, Anne Coulter as his profile pic for a while and would often use the racist trope of referring to Obama by his full name. I mean I’m sure he’s a nice guy and I like his posts outside of here, but he’s clearly on the wind-up on these pages so don’t particularly have much sympathy if some libs say bad things. Thought that’s what it was all about tbh.

Finners is a good lad tbf. But his posts here have about the same amount of substance as the responses he gets. I always figured he kind of revelled in it and he was half taking the mick tbh

"If Joe Biden were your grandfather you'd be having a serious conversation about taking away his car keys" spot on that xxxx
Voter fraud runs rampant so it might be closer than I thought two weeks ago
No, it will be a landslide win for Trump
Tv wont be showing anything that incriminates dems. If you dont know that you are not paying attention. Have a nice time in your cozy bubble
Had to edit my profile a bit
You went all in didnt you.
Strait shooter arent you? :)
Oh wow.
Dodged pretty much every question there was. And top of it all...very very SMUG.
Trump landslide incoming.
Have to quote Ol' Joe again.C'mon maaaan....try to watch that debate
Oh how sweet
Well im pretty sure I was talking about the debate. You dont want to talk about the debate. Off you go.
Bless you.
After two debates id say Trump didnt do favours to himself in the first one. Pence easily took this one and showed how fragile B/H campaign is...whats even their slogan, does anybody know lol? Next one will be big.

You aren't remotely alone.

Since ~40% of debate-watchers feel Pence won the debate it's not unreasonable for some to come here and make the same claim. But where the POTUS campaign is getting hammered this election is with women (all races, all economic and education backgrounds) so for there to be a huge gender split in reaction to the debate is very problematic for the POTUS.

If there are any more debates, it's hard to imagine there will be a kindler, gentler Donald Trump to emerge and win over a key voting bloc that seems dead-set against him. Last night was an opportunity to appeal to that key constituency. It didn't seem to work.

Iirc in 2016 the veep debate was also moderated by a woman but don’t recall the same visceral reaction to Pence as I did last night. I’ve seen some comments about his dealing with Harris - I actually had no issue with him interupting her, he didn’t do it particularly excessively and I thought her “I’m speaking” retort a tad over theatrical.

But his patronizing “Susan“ routine had me cursing at the tv!
