I think they basically broke us up by injuring a few of our players and basically the ref didn't have a clue and should have sent one of theirs off in the first half.

Howard - 5. Had nothing to do, wall disintegrated on him for the free kick.
Coleman - 5. Poor. Had no energy and was the weakest part in the defence. McGeady saved his arse several times. Not fully fit? Bumped to a 5 because of the last 10 mins and his hand in the goal.
Jagielka - 7. Marshalled the defence well, had some good touches and did some good defending.
Distin - 5. Not much to say really. Technically limited with the ball, we miss Stones.
Baines - 5. An anonymous performance. Looked good when he got the ball which would have been maybe 3-4 times in a decent area. Tactics weren't right for him today.
Barry - N/A. Hopefully nothing serious. Pure Shitehouse tackle from Gomez, nowhere near the ball.
Gibson - 4. Anonymous performance. Poor distribution at times. Gave us no impetus when moving the ball around. Didn't cover our back four particularly well either.
McCarthy - 8. Best player on the park. Broke forward with the ball, a bundle of energy, key tackles, and that goal line clearance.
McGeady -7. Made chances from beating his man. Had the best chance of the first half. One pass to no-one was frustrating, needs to cut that out of his game.
Eto'o. 5. Anonymous. Didn't play his role barring the last 10 minutes. Played far too deep for a number 10 role, and didn't get in the box. Slid that nice ball in for Coleman and had that 1-2-1-2 with Lukaku which he should have finished.
Barkley. 5. Anonymous. Offered no link up with Baines and seemed stuck between playing an outright winger and number 10 role. Looked good when drifting into number 10 role, he needs to be played there as we are infinitely more dangerous with the drive he gives us through the middle.
Lukaku. 3. Poor and inconsistent. Hold up play and passing was hit and miss. Needs to be far better. Lacked support from Eto'o. Needed to slot that chance first time, was a poor decision to try and go around the keeper. Headers on target but needed power.

Naismith. 6. Full of energy when he came on. Gave us options around the penalty area and someone in the box.
Osman. N/A.

Poor performance. Really poor. No doubt referee was dog turd as Sunderland should have been playing with 9, but we brought the result on ourselves with an awful performance.
Can't wait till Mirallas gets back as the side lacks balance. We lack quality wing options and need him back so that we can actually stretch sides with width.

Honestly mate

Some of your posts in this thread today have been kin shocking.

It just winds me up mate how people are up martinez's arse, if this was moyes in charge people would be criticising him and rightly so. So why the difference? what have we done this season that is making what I'm saying crap? Our performances have been awful and if Utd and the RS were the teams of the past we would have the 7th place trophy already, we are relying on other teams slipping up for us to stay in the mix and it's frustrating.

I was set back when seeing what Roberto said. He's right in what he has said, Wickham should have certainly gone for the foul.

However, normally Roberto is much calmer, respectable and positive in what he says post match.

I've not actually seen the news conference, rather only the text, but it read more of almost a comment of desperation. Pleading for a red.

It may have changed the game significantly, yet it doesn't take away from the fact we were poor in general. We certainly didn't help ourselves.

Maybe I am reading into it too much, but I think he may be starting to slightly show some pressure over our league performance.

Gomez. How he stayed on the pitch I do not know.

Breaks someones leg. Dives in the box to try and get a penalty. Still doesn't get sent off.

terrible performance by lukaku and the ref....other than that it was a decent away performance....Sunderland should have had 2 players sent off, which would have resulted in an easy win for us.....
Lukaku, Mourinho will be laughing his @ss off we paid 28 million....how much would we have had to pay for a striker with a first touch?...

I still think Howard was lucky to get away with obstruction, you can't have a nap on top of the ball. We were lucky there imo.

Crap result and Bobby definitely didn't set the team up well, Barkley on the left, lukaku dropping short all the time. If he is going to insist on starting lukaku Barkley and etoo he needs to stop drilling into lukaku to come short and link up, he needs to be off the shoulder in behind to stretch the play. It was easy for the Sunderland back four because everything was played in front of them.

Tbf to Sunderland I don't think they're anywhere near as bad as people have been making out. They've had some shockers but there's some decent players in there and of course they have turned the corner, just as we turn up.

The league is so open we could still finish anywhere.

It was a rubbish first half and we appear to be a team at the moment who expect teams to roll over for us. The first half was tosh, frustrated me to f#@* when we just knock it around the back four when we are drawing 0-0.

Mcgeady I thought was brilliant, always looking to make something happen and get us going forward. Barkley was so so, a few good driving runs here and there but he still doesn't grab the game by the scruff of the neck. My man lukaku had a bad day at the office, his link up play was good but that's not why we bought him. He needs to start running in behind and let players find him rather than him coming for the ball all the time. His first touch for the chance lost it.

McCarthy is class.
Good to see Gibson back and bar that mistake in the box he did alright.
Eto was poo first half but came into the game second half and started picking up those little pockets of space.

Just a frustrating result, a fair result based on performance but these are the games we have to be winning if we want to be challenging for champions league.
