Sunderland Til I Die - Netflix Doc

It`s not though Dave.

Unless there was some real explosive stuff in it or it was recommended word of mouth, I wouldn`t watch a documentary about the 90`s Man U team, as I have no interest in them as an Everton Supporter.

I`m using them as an example, but you could apply it equally to each and every club.
The only explosives to come out would be of the smelly sort, coming out of big nevs bottom after his cheese beans on toast medley after training..

A good crisis story will always attract some attention from elsewhere too, as proven with this Sunderland thing. Outside of that yes, you’re right.
Maybe we should start filming our board and our fanbase now the 52k stadium is being mooted

Not sure if your being serious with that comment mate.
No link I’m afraid it was years ago. All I remember from it was Roy Keane losing his [Poor language removed] over a game of cards and storming out.
Why wouldn’t I be serious ? That some team to watch with loads of dramatic late wins . Cole and yorke were ridiculous together.

It seemed to me like he wasn’t interested.

I think that the programme makers are Sunderland fans and working with those running the club whilst Rodwell wouldn’t be on camera certainly makes it easier to push that narrative ,

Was Rodwell refusing to play , perhaps not interested or not good enough or where the club forcing him out . I don’t know but did he have appearance money or appearance based bonuses tied to his contract that meant he wasn’t available for consideration or did they want him to be sorry fed up he walked away . Given the injuries the club faced seems mad under 3 managers he couldn’t even get a run out . I got the impression they were doing all they could to force him out .

He was very badly treated there

I know you’re taking the Mick because of how you feel about them but I do think the programme wanted a bad guy and those making it picked the bloke who wanted paying . I’m guessing when they sacked Grayson he didn’t walk away without the money from the contract so why wasn’t that the subject for debate . Martin Bain paying himself over a £1m a year to badly run that club moaning they need more money on the pitch I presume he didn’t consider ripping up his own contract .

Seems like excellent propaganda by the club to me. Gets a bit of pride back for the fanbase (weirdly), makes people forget how much of a failure and how badly run they’ve been and then makes them a few quid, win win.

Allows the fans to also blame anyone but themselves too, which is the Headpatter way

Yeah, you’d have thought that Rodwell could and should have excelled in that league; maybe they didn’t pick him due to the appearance fee thing, maybe he just couldn’t be arsed playing.

He certainly wouldn’t have been paid anywhere near 70k a week elsewhere, so why should he leave? It’s an interesting one as he was tipped to be an Everton legend and his decline was rapid, which suggests it was more because of a lack of effort than lack of talent.
