Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

Exactly. Our fans are needing some high octane football but are too worried it'll go wrong
Good point. It’s why it’s baffling to me that loads want the Bournemouth manager. He would fail here cos he hasn’t got his type of players to succeed here. Our fans wouldn’t have the patience to wait about 3 summer windows to have Irroala type of players. Also, he’s just won his first home game since 24th of January at the weekend.

Whoever takes over, our fans don’t realise just how big of a job Moyes has had to do or whatever manager comes in has got to do.

Stutgart are exciting to watch. There style of football would suit what Everton fans want in a team. Would he come to Everton? No chance but we can dream. He’ll likely move on to bigger soon but he’d be my dream target long term. You’d give him money to spend and he’d turn us into a really good outfit.
Ok, ill bite. Why would a Stuttgart manager never come to Everton? We would have tons more than Stuttgart. Massively different wages, can attract massively better players, bigger stadium etc. And I like German football.

I'm not sure I agree, iraola has managed to work well at Bournemouth when having new players to utilise after the better ones get snapped up. I think the trick is to get manager and recruitment team aligned which I don't think is happening right now

So we’ve had Allardyce, Benitez and Dyche.. probably played the worst football outside of Wimbledon in the history of the Prem..

But people draw the line at Moyes lifting us up the table (twice now)?

Struggling with that tbh. He hasn’t even completed a full season yet in this spell..
Think you're missing the point of my post a bit really.

Yes it was worse under those managers than it was under Moyes, and you can add Koeman to that list as well. We should still have higher aspirations though. Being the best of a bad bunch shouldn't be enough, Moyes should be judged on his own merits.

He had over a decade in charge of this club and achieved nothing of any real meaning. With all the recent change at the club ( new stadium, new investment, opportunity to build almost an entirely new squad ) I don't think it's wrong for fans to want to see more ambition, and a manager that they feel can bring something new and suprise them.

At the very least I feel that it should be easy enough to understand why fans around my age would feel this way.

Stuttgart have a bigger ground. It holds just above 60k. They have over 100k members. They are a very big club in Germany mate and have won stuff recently. Plus they play in Europe. Hoenes is one of the most high regarded managers in football right now and there will be bigger clubs circling than Everton. Over here we have this misconception that everyone watches the premier league. In Germany, and I’ve been to lots of games and grounds over there, ones I’ve spoke to don’t watch or pay attention to the premier league.

I remember having a conversation with St. Pauli fans and they asked who I supported in England. I told them Everton. They had never heard of us. Had to show him a picture of Goodison park and where my seat was in the gwladys street(when I had a season ticket) outside of the sky 6, we aren’t that well known over there.

He’s a great coach but it wouldn’t be an instant success on the pitch with him been the manager. It would take time to sign the players to fit his system. It would also take money to do so. Our fans wouldn’t have the patience for it to work here.

I find the bottom part very hard to believe, German football fans not knowing who Everton are, sorry but I just can't buy that..

Well, I live in Berlin and we're not a household name.

FC Ever-un as they call us are seen as a bit of a "traditionsverein" - traditional club - with a tradition of making up the numbers these last 40 years.

Yes, the diehard German football supporter will know us - but in a similar way to English football supporters knowing Werder Bremen. We're really not on the mainstream radar like "Chelsea London", "Arsenal London", and Jürgen Klopp FC.

Would a Stuttgart coach come to FC Ever-un? Yes. We are a Premier League club. While Germany has more "big clubs" than England does - Stuttgart being one of them - the money and glamour is in England. That is our biggest advantage right now. When the glamour of the club name alone is enough of a draw, you'll know the Friedkins have been transformational owners.

That stadium bit was replying to the poster saying our stadium is bigger than stuttgarts when it isn’t.

Of course we are heard of worldwide but not a massive club in those people’s eyes.

The PL isn’t as big in Europe like it is in Asia or the America’s. I’ve been lucky to go watch games in Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria and Holland. People from those countries don’t play a lot of attention to the PL like you think. I’ve been in Germany many of time and big games have been on. They arent shown, but they’ll have all bundesliga 1 and 2 games on. I’ve been in Poland when a Merseyside derby in the week has been on and it’s not been shown. Had to ask for them to show it in the pubs.

Clubs who regularly play European football will be more known than Everton.

During the boom of the PL we’ve been mainly rubbish.

I knew you would be popping in for a chat the second I sent the post..

We may not be a wonderfully massive household name in germany, but that wasn't my point.
I don't buy the fact a German football fan doesn't know who we are.

Maybe if you're more of a casual, local club, a good day out supporter, that doesn't really pay to much attention to football bar that, then you know who we are. Just like I know your clubs, but I don't support them and they aren't big names in households here..

There's no need to be snotty. I've just given you a perspective from Germany. I'm not German. Plenty will know us - the hardcore supporter or fella who closely follows the Premier League - but we're not big football news here in Germany. The idea that a St. Pauli supporter wouldn't know us is plausible to me. I'd question how much of a football supporter he is, mind, but I wouldn't doubt that situation happened. Heck, it's St. Pauli. He'll know more about left-wing veganism than Dixie Dean. Truth be told, we're about as well known in Germany as any irrelevant club would be. Not too many English supporters would tell you much about Kaiserslautern either - and they've won the league far more recently than we have...

Sorry bud, their wasn't anything snotty intended at all, I really did expect you to respond..

What you are saying though is totally different to what the original poster was saying, I go by what I said, no snottyness behind it..
I just don't buy it if you are a proper football fan, especially from Germany. 🤷‍♂️

I'm obviously over-sensitive. No offence taken. Apologies.

I don't actually disagree with you. A genuine football supporter, to me, knows plenty about football across the world. But then, I'm a cosmopolitan kind of fellow who can identify his Fluminenses from his Flamengos and his 1.FC Kölns from his 1.FC Kaiserslauterns. It's just that I have often been disappointed by what I have found in other football supporters. Many lack the kind of knowledge people like you and I take for granted and enjoy. I'm just too much of a football nerd and have realised most football fans aren't like me at all. Lucky for them, I suppose.

So, yes, what I would call a "real" supporter will know us. But the amount of people who occasionally go to matches here in Germany and identify with a particular club who wouldn't know about Everton would surprise you. It did me.
