Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

In all fairness, this was never a Moyes out thread. More just keeping track of options as the PL managerial carousel spins.

I had previously wanted us to make a change in summer, but if Moyes gets us Europe he obviously should be given the chance to have a crack at it. Unless there's an opportunity that's too good to miss, but that's unlikely.
I think Thomas Frank, Iraola, and Howe are proving that the grass isn't always greener and those are names I've seen thrown around a lot in the last year.

Frank I've been shocked by this season I have to say. Spurs a circus for sure but he seems way out of his depth. The thing the other day saying post match that the Romero red card was out of character for his game, only to be told by the journo that he has the most reds for spurs in PL history. Ultimately meaningless but makes him look very daft.

Howe I've never been convinced by at all. Will always get shouts on here due to his claim of being a boyhood blue but I don't see what the hype is about. Overacheived at Bournemouth fair enough, but has only ever got Newcastle on good runs of form by making them the dirtiest nastiest team in the league. Tactically inflexible, runs his players into the ground refusing to use his squad and has wasted a lot of money on awful players.

Iraola is hipsters choice, he's the one I rate highest but obviously wheels have fallen off at Bournemouth after a strong start this season. Would be fair to point out that he had his entire defence sold in summer though, and despite having some good young players their squad overall isn't the best. Big part of the appeal with him is that he approaches every game looking to play on the front foot, and you just feel like he could do something special if he was at a club where he could hold onto his best players and continue to build.

I have complained (a lot) about Moyes this season, but if the sole objective is getting Everton into Europe from the position we're in right now I'll take Moyes over any of those other 3 managers without much hesitation. Only becomes more of a debate when you start looking further down the line.

In what way? Obviously Frank is struggling at Spurs but the other two have clearly done a very good job overall at their clubs, I don't see how they would be evidence of the grass not being greener in any way shape or form?

The fortunes and acceptability of management candidates can go up as well as down, and we already have threads about potential player acquisitions, so why not the manager?

Eddie Howe will be out of his job come the Summer, would he be an acceptable replacement if we have a vacancy by then?

Who would you like to see as the next Everton Manager?
Not good enough imo

In a way which means only the previous 3 months are relevant in football.

Example that springs to mind is how many took the piss on here at the idea of Emery, based on his Arsenal spell.

If he gets Europe he'll have deserved the right to stay. Thats despite clear mismanagement of players.

Europe forces him to play them.

If we replaced Moyes with Iraola I'd windmill on my roof for about 24 hours straight

Oh it would be fantastic to have a manager who can develop young players and build an attacking squad.

They've done a worse job this year than David Moyes
I mean, leaving aside the fact that that in itself is subjective, that doesn't equate to what you said in the first place.

Obviously on a literal level what you're saying is true, the grass isn't always greener, but it's important to remember that that doesn't mean the grass can't ever be greener. You'll always be making judgement calls with these things, and I can totally get why some people would automatically default to a safety blanket sort of position where they would believe finishing 10th (for example) this season was fine and there's no reason to risk someone who we can rely on to deliver those finishes. It's a perfectly valid viewpoint, it's just that so is thinking it's worth taking a chance every now and again and there might be more scope to do better under someone else.
