Current Affairs Stabbing incident in Southport

Yet others on here are suggesting this isn't the case. While there were definitely people from further afield who came to incite trouble, there are many scousers too.

Their reasoning? Who knows, but as I've previously posted I suspect some will be there purely for a scrap, a laugh and having a go at the cops.

I've thought for a while, that the narrative that Liverpool is a welcoming, multicultural hub, where everyone is welcome, has been further from the truth.

It'd be wrong to suggest that every single person within the region is a thug, racist or a trouble causer because its not the case, it's a small, but growing minority. Same with any City.

I personally have my own thoughts on immigration, migrants and what not. But it's not a racist opinion, nor is it to find a solution by vandalising cities, bricking vehicles and making people feel threatened in their own homes.

The one thing I will say is, I'll refute any scouser who tells me it wasn't locals partaking because I've seen far too many local accents which dictate that.

The last 30 pages of this thread have been really upsetting. Think I’ll take a break from this site for a while. Three children dead and all I can see is idiots spreading misinformation and trying to score points, it’s embarrassing.

And speaking of embarrassing, the site owner sharing a tweet from an EDL account justifies it by saying ‘I was on my phone’ and then doubles down by resharing the tweet, all while declaring ‘it’s my site and I’ll share what I like’ in such a mature fashion…Jesus wept, give your head a wobble.

Three kids are dead, show some respect.
The doubling down was very strange. After admitting he didn't know much about the source and being informed by others about its nature, he responded with, "I'll post what I want.".

Agree totally with this, there’s one thing I always say about the people of Liverpool whenever the conversation gets around to the city and it’s people, is, that the good people of Liverpool are the best in the world, they are funny , compassionate ,welcoming.
But the bad are some of the worse in the world who I wouldn’t wizz on if they were on fire.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater: there are lots of good things about the people of this city and its culture. Lots of people talk about it positively.

However, importantly, we also cannot ignore the fact that many stereotypes this city receives are likely based on some truths, and the city doesn't help itself.

Look at how prominent the city is as a base of major criminality; look at the numbers of civil unrest that there have been in the city in the last fifty plus years.

It can (and will) easily be spun towards opposing those against us, Scouse not English blah, and maybe that's partly true, but also it is often just mindless yobs.

Am I surprised about last night? Sadly, no. Liverpool and the Merseyside region is a great place in many, many years, yet we can't ignore it's dark underbelly.

Nope. Parents from a country that is 93% Christian.

It’s almost like people should have waited for the facts to come out but as usual the far-right wanted an excuse to start a fire.
They don't care about any of that. They were basically told that from the beginning.

And even if he was a muslim, so what? It wouldn't make any of it any more acceptable.

There's a small portion of scousers who are far right, they'll be in private groups etc where they spout their racist bile.

This has all basically been cleared now. Local plant company provided grabbers and JCB. Local building contractors clearing waste and debris. Local glazers offering to repair windows for free. Local fencing company repairing gates for free. The community is fixing what was caused by outsiders.

Some good updates in here..

This is where the focus needs to be. There will always be a scumbag element, however minor, to any town or city, but it’s the above elements - far greater in proportion - that deserve everybody’s attention and praise.

I can’t imagine the contractors of Southport are a wealthy bunch, but they haven’t given a second thought to donating their time for free, to undo some of the carnage wrought last night. Good on them.

I think you need to relax a bit. What @GrandOldTeam was alluding to was the story itself. Yes some of the details were untrue like the machete and it being the cause of the violence. But the story was there.

@Bishop Thumpety-Thump

Don't be afraid to tag me, gents. It's a courtesy when making some rather nasty comments. I'd have missed otherwise - thanks @Tramps_mate

To revisit;

The murder of children will bring all emotions - including anger.

But why at a Mosque?

I can see stuff online about a bloke with a knife - but god knows if true?

That's in Southport. I know where it's is..

Is this?

No clue on the source. He follows GOT so it was high on my feed;

Yep. That's princes street.

The footage I shared to ask if the first was the same location, has been proven to be correct - as per police confirmation.

People took the knock because they didn't think it would be/was true. It was.

If you don't like the person's Twitter/X account who shared it, I really couldn't care.

I wouldn't expect people to vet someone's social media history before sharing comment on what they share/say. I did say "no clue on the source" because generally, I'd skim but the footage looked real to me which proved to be the case.

Oh, and a reminder;

A couple of years on and the 'Current Affairs' forum has been a success. When we asked, 100% in a poll wanted it to stay.

Recently, we've had a couple of incidents were one or two have been a little overzealous or emotional - it's a real shame when some allow politics/current affairs to spoil their experience on GOT.

A reminder then that The Current Affairs forum is largely unmoderated. Our moderators take a step back from moderating. We won't/can't moderate this forum as we do the rest of the site, nor will we allow it to monopolise our time.

If we find anyone who finds this forum a bit too much, they become high maintenance and generally not suitable for this forum, we'll revoke their access to the current affairs forum.

A reminder that we also ask that issues within the Current Affairs forum, stay within Current Affairs forum. 'Leave it at the door'

Thanks
