O'Neill's Leicester won a bunch of league cups around the turn of the century. Montepeller beat PSG to the french title last year despite spending no money and PSG spending loads.

You should have just said nobody mate, that would have been for the best.

Tranmere could win the French League.

I hate the "plucky Everton" monicker, But people do to need to temper their expectations. We are historically a big club but that is history. The billionaire backed clubs are successful for a reason and we can't compete with that. We have a good squad and we will take points off of anyone in the league but Moyes hasn't ever been able to build a team completely in his image I don't think.

And what pressure has he put on the current board? None, as long as he collects his £60k and has a pop at fans for pitch invading its ok.

Listen Moyes is a fine manager, that is it. Getting us to finish in a decent position he is among the best, but going that step further, winning something, when those in a less fortunate position than Everton have already bagged a trophy, he will always fail.

I said last year, we will never win a trophy under Moyes and I can't see that changing. I will laugh my tits off if he gets the United job eventually, he just isn't good enough for that. He's good, but not that good

There is no plan to move this club forward, the board sit and twiddle in the hope Liverpool come in and ask us to share a stadium with them, other than that, it is just to survive in the Premier League and Moyes goes along with that, so I can see Davek's point when he says Moyes isn't driven by ambition anymore.

Agree with this. Moyes clearly wanted the Spurs job and he wasn't even considered and he supports a regime that won't invest in him despite all being multi, multi millionaires.

I certainly think it was a job that interested him, I was told (people can take it or ignore it) that kenny moyes was trying to get hold of Levy's number but spurs didn't even have him on the shortlist which I think was topped by Rodgers but obviously he moved before Harry was sacked . Personally I thought moyes would maybe leave this summer to go abroad and I'm certain it's something he considered but maybe the arrival of a genuine goalscorer convinced him to stay. I wonder given that moyes thinks everyone in football should take a wage cut how he'll approach his new contact negotiations .

If we're a midtable club and we're not going to either challenge for the title or get relegated then what you judge a manager on is the other stuff, cup runs, derby games, the entertainment value of the football and the chances of talented kids getting in the team.

I'd happily finish 13th rather than 7th if it meant we play better football, have a go against the kopites and play the kids more.

Good post !!

Top 6 this year would be fantastic, because the squad is quality but not huge, which means that there could be problems at various points in the season, injury problems aside top 6 is achievable and that is really good when you just consider how much we spend compared to about 11 other teams in this league. Moyes is absolutely fantastic to get us where we are and as long as our financial situation remains, i'll be happy with the quality that is in our squad, that said, if Moyes gets his loanees right, and he is due a good one, then we will be dark horse for a champions league place, the fume in this thread(especially Davek) astounds me. This is the best things have been in a long while and even when it hasn't been this good we still managed top 7 finishes which often gets you into europe. For those saying Moyes is a dour idiot, you are dead wrong, he is a very canny, intelligent manager, and is a far better tactician than Joe Royle, as well as twice as clever in the market and twice as charismatic and insightful in his manager's notes and press conferences, I believe he is a figure of trust and someone who gives me the confidence my club can still move forward without the big bucks, his intention is to win every game and it's out of his loyalty to our club that he hasn't left, he wants to win with Everton, he is fiercely ambitious and passionate about our club. With all this said I am so looking forward to Man Utd. a week Monday and getting things started in a good manner and then who knows what we can achieve this year?
Rant over.

I agree there seems to be a lack of belief in cup competitions and his cautious side does tend to rear its head. But it's not a habitual problem. It's incredibly difficult to make progress when the squad is unsettled like it seems to be annually. The top clubs don't have that problem as such and it makes a difference. Not knowing where replacements are coming from is bound to make for a difficult campaign. I'm not sayin Moyes is blameless but his job is very difficult and he does meet rather than exceed expectation. I think he's worth his wage personally.

Our squad changes a lot less then other teams.

Course he's worth it, he's keeping us in the league, exactly what the expectations of the board are. As long as you do what your boss says you get the money for it and if you keep doing it you get a pay-rise.

That isn't good enough for me though. Hypothetical, but David Moyes would not have lasted 5 years under the Sir John Moores in my opinion.

Hes probably a lot more beneficial financially to the board when finishing 7th, so is duly rewarded. I'm not thrilled by that and every blue wants to see him push on but the circumstances in which he has to do that are trying.

Sir John Moores would have given him more than 1.7m a Season tho mate.

A club like Everton SHOULD be challenging top 4 every season, but now, in this league, that takes a lot of money. Money which will never get injected into the playing staff until the current board move on. Moyes does have his downfalls admittedly but most seem to be blaming him for a lot more than he should be blamed for. A manager is only able to work with what he has got, and with what Moyes has had he has done a good job with IMO. Think slating him about his wage is way over the line as well, ridiculous thing to beat him with.
