Squad - what squad?!!

We get it you don't like Moyes or the board.. or Everton fans it seems or..
Sorry if my being optimistic about this years squad has ruined the last 17 years though, didn't realise, i'll be a miserable git then, that helps, nothing breeds success like negativity.
Just to recap in a different way to your recap.. we just ensured we kept the services of a top manager who is aware that any funds would be found through the club and that would banckrupt us, he's ensured we have a stronger squad and less debt which equates to a good thing, and the reason to be optomistic is down to the players we have not the funds we had to buy them with, I honestly think I can say that with absolutely no effect on the last 17 years or indeed the fortunes of the next 17 years.

We kept the manager because he couldn't get a sniff of the Spurs job (despite hawking himself around the media pathetically trying to drum up support for it) and the job he has now he wouldn't get paid half as much elsewhere; he's the manager of a club that has large debt repayments - and he's complicit in backing a regime that wont invest a penny to minimize the effects of that; and if you think we have a strong squad now and the future is open ended then I suggest you might want to stay out of the sun.

You said he has 'sacrificed' squad players. Since when is selling a player who hasn't appeared for the team in 2 years and was never going to regardless of injuries considered a 'sacrifice' ?

And you act as if we definitely won't get any more loans in, Denis was garbage and Drenthe was an idiot, we'll more than likely see at least one more player coming in on loan, and as others have said the actual first team is stronger than it was at the start of last season.

This is funny. Sophistry to mask an absence of argument.

Yeah, you can talk about prudence all you like but we're pretty much bankrupt as it is, with our annual loss and massive bank loans. We had to sell off our fecking training ground, ffs.

Trophies won in the ten years Moyes has been here: 0
Trophies won in the ten years before Moyes was hired: 1

And same amount of relegations and years in the champions league proper.

Royle was a better manager than Moyes, not even going to lie. If we go back to that, I'd be more than happy.

hahaha 'kin ell 2 times in the top half of the table in the decade before, constant relegation battles, if you think that's better than 2 times outside of the top half and constant european place battles for the sake of one cup then I have no argument for you.
Bring back the Horne moments, last ditch survival, general endless dross.. they were boss years. Given the choice I would happily sacrifice a cup for avoiding the relegation battles and quality of team we had for the sake of playing in europe and having a chance in any game. But each to their own.
I'm gald you'd be happy but I think you'd be amongst a very small crowd.

Agree with this. Moyes clearly wanted the Spurs job and he wasn't even considered and he supports a regime that won't invest in him despite all being multi, multi millionaires.

Sorry we have a terrible squad and we're going down.. like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that and.. well you get the point.
The fact is that Bill doesn't stump up the cash, every team around us does.. however somehow we get better.. That is either down to Moyes, or one of the many players you hate upping their game each season or down to the board.. you tell me?
Why did we finish above Liverpool? Stoke? Sunderland, all of which are getting waved in our faces as spending more than us?
Seriously if he is that poor a manager and our team is so weak how did we finish 7th and get to a semi final?

Kanchelskis and Limpar, Ferguson and Rideout, Southall and Watson that was an utterly boss team mate. Royle was here only two years and we won a trophy and finished 6th and played some of the best football I've seen at goodison and beat liverpool at anfield.

Walter Smith and Mike Walker shouldn't be the benchmarks for an everton manager, compare Moyes to Kendall and Catterick, mate.

Moyes comes across as a strong man - character-wise. In reality he's just a willing cats paw for his paymasters.

He talks about 'ambition' and 'achieving success' with Everton. It's strictly for the birds. No one's listening to that horeshit anymore. The feller is in on the scam with the board up to his elbows and taking the piss. How people continue to fall for the line he's seperate from them I dont know.

Did I say the squad would take us down? Thanks for misrepresenting me.

We finihed 7th? Sound. If you're happy with banging your head on that glass ceiling, great. I'm happy for you. It means **** all though really doesn't it?

We haven't got better.

In the last five years we finished 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th. That's getting worse.

But **** it, eh? As long as we're not relegated that's success for the 4th most successful team in England. Never mind winning trophies or out.

Moyes clearly isn't a bad manager. The problem comes with him being paid £4m to achieve what many other managers in other leagues are doing for far less money. Achieving mid table mediocrity.

It's as if we should be grateful for finishing 7th because "Remember the 90s lad, dark days them lad".

We should be trying to be the best, trying to progress all the time, after all our club motto states that, but the motto seems to have been forgotten by a lot of people.

Sick of every year, "Moyes has done great getting Everton to 7th" is that what we are settling for now?

Exactly. When he's on twice what the Juventus manager gets to win the seria a title, he's going to be questioned. If he was on the same wage as alan pardew we could judge him by those standards and say 7th is great but when he's on an elite wage, I expect elite achievements and he hasn't done that.

I get what you're saying, and I'm not one of those who bums Moyes...

But how is it the manager's fault that we can't do any better than Europa League places, in our current situation?

He simply doesn't have the funds to make us Champion's League spot contenders... With the current board, no manager could.

It's ridiculous to say "5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th, 'kinell Moyes is that all you can do?"
