Squad - what squad?!!

What do you think they will have worked out?

I do think there's a truth in the fact that squads, even succesful squads need refreshment and new blood just so they don't get stale. A new player lifts the whole place and offers something extra that opposing squads won't have been drilled against. It's why even the likes of Barca and man U bring in a new player every year. It's not as simple as this team won games last year so they'll do the same this year.

^^^^ Most of the above responses = basically why we've gone 17 years without a trophy and face the next few years with that same certainty.

Just to recap: we've gone into a summer where the manager is the key player at the club and who's contract negotiations could provide a bargaining chip to squeeze out transfer funds from personally very rich men who have also just come into another massive tranche of tv money...and we end up with the manager - having just sacrificed 7 or 8 squad members from last season to fund two permamnaent arrivals (one on a free) - accepting he'll have, at best, to start this coming season no better off than last season....and some people on here see the positives in all that.

Stop drinking the Kool Aid lads.

Our squad is getting smaller every year and not being replaced.

Not good enough, fortunately the Premier League is a terrible league outside the top 8 so we will be fine for another top half finish.

does anyone else think we'll beat united? i'm fairly optimistic we will, night game first game if the season under the goodison floodlights?? may be one of those stupid days where it's still light at 8pm. i was so confident that i put a whole 30p on us winning, honestly lads, i'm fairly happy with our squad for the season and fairly happy with what moyes has said for once. at leats he didnt day we will be looking at a CB, which would you assume means heitinga is staying. at least he's looking to address the two positions we know needs strengtheining.

We get it you don't like Moyes or the board.. or Everton fans it seems or..
Sorry if my being optimistic about this years squad has ruined the last 17 years though, didn't realise, i'll be a miserable git then, that helps, nothing breeds success like negativity.
Just to recap in a different way to your recap.. we just ensured we kept the services of a top manager who is aware that any funds would be found through the club and that would banckrupt us, he's ensured we have a stronger squad and less debt which equates to a good thing, and the reason to be optomistic is down to the players we have not the funds we had to buy them with, I honestly think I can say that with absolutely no effect on the last 17 years or indeed the fortunes of the next 17 years.
