I can't work out if most of these posts are tongue in cheek, Spurs a well known jewish supported team, saving up for christmas (a christian holiday) and before anybody starts, i'm not being anti Spurs, anti semitic or anti anything else.

Hardly any Spurs fans are Jewish, mate. Trust me.

It is literally that Society Of Black Lawyers guy who has a problem with it, has brought it up in the media, and you're all lapping it up. Its all about context. Spurs fans only use it positively.

It was David Baddiel that I 1st heard kicking a stink up.

There was a piece on Radio 1 the other day asking people in the street both black and white if they thought use of the word was acceptable. The general response was either 'yeah if they're black' or 'no, the word is offensive regardless of who says it'.

Black people use the word to refer to themselves and each other in much the same way Jewish Spurs fans traditionally used the word Yid. The fact that the N-word is seen as 'more offensive' isn't really the issue.

Jews are offended by being called Yids, Black people are normally offended by being called the N-word. I don't think the hypocrisy is any different.

difference being that the black persons using it are actually black, as opposed to the Spurs fans that aren't Jewish.

A valid point that Chelsea and West Ham referred to them as Jews so they took that as their identity in the 80's and called themselves yids, can't offend us if we call it ourselves thing. Anyone who thinks that a vast majority of their supporters are Jewish is seriously off their head, if they were so Jewish then those Orthodox Extremists would be outside WHL throwing rocks and stuff every Saturday.

Oh no it ain't.

*sigh*

Jewish Arsenal supporting mate says there is no problem when they sing it as it's to counteract the anti semitism they recieved, or used to recieve as a club. Its turning a negative insult into a positive sense of identification. Yes most arnt actually jewish but some are, and they are known to be from a jewish area, so its them saying 'yeah so what? We are the Yid army.'

Again, good enough for me.

Who are you to say that? Many Jews are offended by the word "yid." The three I work with for a start. Shall I tell them that Nik says they need to get a grip and get over it?

You again.

It is offensive when used as an insult.

Spurs fans dont use it as an insult.
