There was a piece on Radio 1 the other day asking people in the street both black and white if they thought use of the word was acceptable. The general response was either 'yeah if they're black' or 'no, the word is offensive regardless of who says it'.

Black people use the word to refer to themselves and each other in much the same way Jewish Spurs fans traditionally used the word Yid. The fact that the N-word is seen as 'more offensive' isn't really the issue.

Jews are offended by being called Yids, Black people are normally offended by being called the N-word. I don't think the hypocrisy is any different.
