Sir Landon Of Donovan

Seriously...let's keep it on topic.

I'd hate for Dear Leader to come back only to find I've re-opened the thread and everything BUT Landon is being discussed.

I'd probably get a 10 day ban. :P

He LOVES us.

We LOVE him.

He's watching us 6 time zones away...

FOR NOW...

We all love each other. In numerous, mostly gay, ways. And that's why we're Everton; staunch, spirited and badly, badly gay.

Night GOT-ers. I'm off to dream of Landon signing a 4 year deal.

Ok, fair enough.

I'll start with a short analysis.

What Donovan offers us is a good mixture of pace, technicality, and directness. He links up well, he was very effective for us. He is not unique, but because of the way he "gets" us, he really is the stand out choice for a right winger.

However, he'll now be almost 29. If we're going to be spending serious money, it's got to be on younger players that will retain their value, and quality, for a long time. I dont doubt that he could last well into his thirties, seeing as he has more than pace, but decline he will. Unless we could recoup the cost from merchandising, he's probably not worth it from a purely business point of view.

However, I love him. And I hope he does play for us again.

Would 12million pounds and him staying with us for at least three years be a good buy? Once the WC of 2014 is over he can retire back to MLS when he has lost his step. He is a young 29 though. No grueling Eruopean schedule.

The only year he has really pushed his body was this year. So only one tough year... no major injuries.. 12mill too much for him, mind you the yanks will come with him and their money? He has clout over here. Soccer fans that never made a choice for an EPL team may pick the Everton if he comes. I really hope he does.

No. 12M GBP is too much. Now if it was 10M to 12M USD, then I'd be ok with it.

MLS knows he's not getting any younger either and if they're going to cash in on one of their most prized assets, they need to do it sooner rather than later.
