Sir Landon Of Donovan

No. 12M GBP is too much. Now if it was 10M to 12M USD, then I'd be ok with it.

MLS knows he's not getting any younger either and if they're going to cash in on one of their most prized assets, they need to do it sooner rather than later.

I agree with you TX , but will MLS really let him go for about 8 million pounds 12 million US?

I don't think they're going to have a choice. I think Landon has all the leverage here to be honest. If he wants to leave, he'll let the MLS brass know and they'll work something out.

Seriously would 8 million pounds 12 million us$ be too much. I would think not if we could get 3.5 seasons out of him at his peak.

Hello thread that is reopened! Yay!

I'm surprised I can even write this - my fingernails have been chewed off - just watched the replay of the game. Will post on that shortly...

I just don't see LD being sold at less than what Jozy Altidore was sold for ($10MM US). I'm with TX Bill and Wratho - $8MM feels like an absolute steal due to where LD is in his career. I love how everyone is aging him. He is 28. An MLS 28. And will not turn 29 until March. Let's not add years onto him, shall we? The $10-$12MM US range feels right, compares well to Jozy, and sets a new record in MLS - as it should. Anything above $12MM feels a little much.

And LD chose a great game to watch today - hopefully it peaked his interest even further!!!!!!!!!!!! We all know he gets excited about these things...

The difference was Jozy was still a kid when he was sold, so they were buying potential too. That is why his price was as high as it was (also in less difficult financial times...).

Totally agree with you on the rationale for Jozy, but LD is a proven quantity now and folks know what they are buying. He will have a slightly inflated rate due to his status in the US/MLS - that's a given. So, I don't see him going for less than what Jozy sold for due to his stature and skill. But, I also don't see him going for over $12MM due to his age as I believe you infer.

Hmmmm...does this paper know something we don't? I think it's just rehashing old news, but intriguing...

From Metro UK:
Landon Donovan closing in on Everton loan despite Fulham interest
Everton manager David Moyes is close to agreeing terms with LA Galaxy to take forward Landon Donovan on loan in January, despite the continuing interest of Fulham.

Moyes believes Donovan is the man to add much needed spark to his stagnant attack this season - despite the Toffees' 2-1 win at title hopefuls Manchester City on Monday night.
The United States captain looks likely to return to Goodison Park for what would be a second loan spell after joining the club around this time last season.
However, the deal is not quite done and dusted with Fulham manager Mark Hughes keen to take the battle for Donovan to the wire by offering improved terms to the American's parent club.
Donovan himself appears keen to rejoin Everton - rather than go to London, though.
And on Twitter during last night's game at Eastlands, the striker praised Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard and expressed his continuing support for the Merseysiders.
'Up the Toffees!' he wrote on his micro-blogging page.

Ahem.....

I'm trying to beat back the optimism from growing. It's a small paper. It's a free paper. Just ignore it. Just ignore it. Don't get your hopes up. Beat it back.

Let's see if the story spreads...

Agree with this. There is no way that he's sold for less than Jozy.
