Silva and Martinez

Hey lads we’ve won a game and half of football, one against a team that didn’t bother to turn up. Here’s why Silva ‘gets us’

....

While I agree there are similarities between the two, it almost feels like a reverse arc of progress could be happening.

Martinez immediately filled some shoes that appeared far too big for him. I was very concerned that season that filling Moyes' shoes for us was on par with Moyes filling SAF's at United.

In hindsight, I probably was wrong about the size of Moyes' shoes (as were United). Regardless though, Martinez filled them and then some. Weirdly his feet began shrinking to the point of a toddlers.

I feel like Marco's toddler like feet are beginning to grow (finally). Perhaps in about year 3 he's going to fully realize things.

Do we have to wait til we beat a top 6 team away from home playing at their peak level with every single player fit before we’re allowed to be happy?

No wonder the fanbase is shrouded in misery.
Yes. We do.

Or we can stop the dramatic lurches from Silva bring the worst manager ever to someone who truly gets us and will reignite our club.

One swallow makes not a Summer. We’ve played 135 minutes of decent football. Sorry for not melting down the family silver for the statue.

Or you could stop being so ridiculously melodramatic and over the top yourself and conflating people that want to give him more time in the job, with wanting to “build a statue”.

Unfortunately, I think Silva will face what RM never had to: a successful Liverpool. That will make a massive difference for Silva. If Liverpool are champions (as I expect) then the already impatient fanbase will crush any manager who isn't seen to be making substantial strides in the table and on the domestic cup front.

If they win the league, Silva next season will have to have us right in amongst the top 6 and knocking very loudly at the door of the CL spots.

It's an unfortunate by-product of external events.

I don't expect Liverpool to be champions. City will win the league . Silva will have the problems you describe in any event, but I think he's a good chance of getting over the problems. The summer is very important for him.

The big thing for Silva for me is and I know I've repeated it so many times but the fact he's gone away to Old trafford/Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool and we're actively trying to go toe to toe with these teams and get a result and we didn't even look out of place doing it against these teams, To do that in his first season I can admire that.

problem is Martinez was different tactically every season

1st season was quality and all about the counter attack, then as seasons went on our play got slower and more boring

silva seems to know how to set up a defence ( set pieces has been an issue but seems to be sorted out a but )

said all along, silva probably should have been sacked but wanted us to give him the season, hopefully ( wouldn't count our chickens just yet ) he's seen what was going wrong and put it right because we have been so much better since that dire Watford game

Only the last few games, except for the diabolical twenty minutes at Newcastle, Silva has got the team performing much, much better than previously, well since before the Anfield Derby, can he get them to perform like this consistently,
if he can then he will have the whole Everton fan base behind him, I have my doubts but obviously wish him all the best with his efforts to get us back among the elite of English football.

Martinez’s form chart started off with a decent improvement and then nosedived off a cliff to a level which was then sustained for 2 seasons. (47 points with the teams he had was a disgrace)

When this season is over Silva will probably have improved on the points tally from Allardyce and Martinez’s last two seasons with all indicators showing that he’s led us out of the slump and form is improving. Martinez never stopped the rot once it began. He refined Moyes’ top 6 team by adding Lukaku Barkley and Barry but basically had no other idea around how to build his own one.

One person is being melodramatic mate, and it ain't me.

Tactically, I agree...very few close similarities. However, both have a much more positive approach than a lot of the managers that get linked with Everton every time we lose a game. Nobody could deny how good Bobbys first season was....hell - we even sang about the reopening of the School of Science. He was unfortunate to have a more limited squad than Silva now has, and equally unfortunate that he had some real bad eggs like Mirallas and Supergrass who undermined him the minute they weren’t playing regularly. Silva appears a stronger character too. Dropping Richarlison for the Derby and the City game showed he’s not afraid to make big calls.
The biggest similarity I see is the great spirit amongst the squad and the fact that the players seem to enjoy playing for them.
Martinez was a pansy.
