Should Moyes be in charge for the last two games?

This whole situation is the result of bad timing -
Man United should have waited till the end of the season to say their good byes to Ferguson or to appoint Moyes -
By jumping the gun they are expecting Moyes to ride two horses at the same time - something which is not really possible -
they also expect Everton fans to carry on as though nothing has happened - which is totally ridiculous -
Some Evertonians have got some pride left in them -
we bow to nobody - not even to the mighty Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson -
how can they expect us to accommodate their manager for the last 2 matches of the season ? would they show us the same courtesy ? I doubt it -
Moyes made up his own bed - he and only he must sleep in it now -
he is no longer ours - he is now THEIRS - and that is where he belongs - end of story ........ he simply cannot have his bread buttered on both sides !

I have nothing against the man and wish him well....except when playing us. He went for the higher profile higher paid job. Most woud do likewise.

That said you are right. The idea of having Manchester United's manager in our dugout is ridiculous. Surely he knows already who he intends to tap up.

Magicjuan - now that we've found something to agree on - can you please use paragraphs for your great posts?!

Must be great to be so dispassionate, do you wear a cravat, smoking jacket and monocle watching motd declaring "kick it in the net, kick it.... go on kick it in the net...." imagining yourself a real supporter?

Oh my god, give over you sad little man.

Even if he's shafted the club? Leaving the door open for a little bit more - "Hey bainesy, felli here a minute..."

How's he shafted the club sorry? Do you mean given us stability despite spending about 90% less than the teams above us? Or do you mean him making Everton consistently in the hunt for european places every season? Yeah, he's done us over hasn't he. This place sometimes....

At the end of the day he doesn't owe Everton anything and has no personnel attachment to the club; 11 years is a pretty ****ing long time considering that.

Why should he turn down the opportunity of a lifetime, to manage the biggest team in the world, when he probably can't take us any further, and has given us over a decade of service?

Way to miss the point.

No one really disagrees with all of that.

We just think he shouldn't be in charge of the team no moah.

A well reasoned post, thank you.
For me honoring a contract is more important than what others have done or not done in the past, and if he's still committed, and still contracted, and he's still our manager, I don't see the issue.
For me our manager should manage our team and that is not only not unprecedented.. that's the norm.
He's not a United manager till next season, at which point he won't be managing us, he'll be managing United.
I can see why some wouldn't want it, but to me it makes sense.

Honouring a contract? Are you serious? I guarentee in his contract it explicitly prohibits colluding with a rival team.

Contracts in football are a joke anyway but they are a conduit to transfer fees and compensation. Moyes denied us that much needed cash for his own agenda. Moyes had/has Kenwright where he wants him. Even under contract Bill would never stop Moyes leaving. Moyes has played the game. At our expense.

But look I have nothing really negative for Moyes. Kenwright allowed Moyes to play the contract game. Moyes should really have gone last summmer after 10 great years but I'd be happy to say thanks and goodbye under the right circumstances.

The point is this idea of continue to manage one club after agreeing a deal with another is unprecedented for a good reason. There are NO examples of a manager doing this for a rival team.

In general business it would be unacceptable for a key executive. In the passionate world of football it is insulting to the fan base.

This is about the principle of Everton's integrity and pride. Right now I have Kenwright and Moyes to blame in equal measure but the more I think about it - Moyes is looking after himself. It's Kenwright's job to safeguard Everton.

I only read the guardian but I imagine the media in general are saying the same things (feel free to correct me on this). I haven't read one single article that has criticised the timing or in any way captured the mood of a large section of Everton fans.
I imagine Man Utd's share prices would have fallen every day they were without a manager so they demanded an immediate and public response from Moyes (I'm sure the share prices will drop any way but probably less so than for a club without any replacement). He may have been over a barrel in that respect- accept the job now or we need to look for someone else- However, I'm in the camp that thinks he should have stepped down gracefully once he'd agreed to take the Utd job. And failing that, Kenwright should have asked him to step aside.

I'm not in the camp that thinks anyone who feels otherwise is an idiot.

Moyes has got nothing to gain though by staying. If anything people'll be ready to pounce if we are poor in the next two games. He wants to win the next two games and finish his contract. Fine with me,
