Seamus Coleman

like i have said since he joined, he isnt a right winger. he is first and foremost a right back. when we are struggling to break down the likes of stoke at home, id love him to be given the chance there. hes better when there is space for him to bomb on

Seem to have recovered from last years injuries and by all accounts killed it at right back.

Against Leyton Orient.

Tbf, I have been pleased with what he's shown this season, mainly that he's getting his head up and making better decisions. He's got a great attitude and athleticism, but didn't develop at all last season. Hopefully, he'll continue to improve but I think he's a big risk to play at right back against Premier league opposition. Atm he looks more like he'll develop into a winger to me.

And yet his tackling is questionable. If he was confident and able defensively, we'd have ourselves some quality attacking full backs.

Is right, he was great going forward tonight, but, defensively, he didn't really get tight to their winger and against better opposition, we'd have been punished for it.

Hate to criticise the lad because he works his socks off and it must be hard to be asked to play right-back once in a blue moon. We should only really judge him on that position after he's been given a run in it. Sadly, I doubt he'll get the chance.

very happy with him so far, he definately won't be a regular starter at right mid, well i doubt it, but is very handy off the bench for the last 20-25 mins or so with his pace. hoping he keeps improving

Damn straight!

He's been excellent this season and had a very good game tonight. But for me still a lot more to come from him and I expect him to deliver over the next 12months

In all fairness, none of our right backs ever get close to wingers. Hibbert and Phil Nev stand off wingers all the time, against top opposition too! Hibbert is fairly good at putting in a last minute tackle though.

I think it's how they are told to play, mark the winger, try and prevent space to cross, but don't get too tight.

Wouldn't say I have seen anything to suggest that Coleman is a liability in defence though.

spot on mate, whenever coleman plays in defence people put him under a microscope that they dont do with the other two, its so obvious hes a right back, if he continues to be played out of position it will be disaterous for his development

Excellent posts, lids.

Hopefully it's only a matter of time until Seamus gets his chance.

Thought he came across brilliantly in his interview. I've had my doubts about him in the past (certainly at right mid) but at right back, he's looking a decent player. From an attacking point of view, part of me would love to see him start 4 or 5 games and see what happens, but I think Hibbo's done enough to lay claim to the position for now. I love his attitude, though. He's going to be a useful squad player at least.
