Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

No no, any other in the last 15-20 years probably. Do you remember these posts by Dave for Baines for example? Big Dunc, Osman? Were they worse servants of the club, or did they show anything less than their best for us?

Current crop yeah, Pickford and not many others. Keggers is approaching 10 years and he's played with us both in Europe and in several relegation fights, so that's a bizarre thought in itself  Gueye first transferred here 10 years ago but he went to PSG for a few seasons too, but he seems to be a fan of the club itself too, which is great to see.

As much as I love the fella, I can see the argument for not holding Dunc in that regard, left the club and was ill-disciplined on it at times. The only thing I can say about Baines and Osman are that they played in a time were we still expected Everton to push for Europe and challenge for the cups, so the club's failure to do so probably unfairly colours their time here for some people, whereas with Coleman, he spent most of his time as captain trying the keep heads above water in a dire time all while not being the same player he once was post-injury. So Coleman, by being seemingly the only guy that cares, is sort of elevated to old-school blues. Also, I think Coleman was a much more obvious vocal and feisty leader than Baines and Osman ever were, so again that colours peoples' perception.

We have lost a little bit of class since TFG, others would maybe say a tad more ruthless. Remember the statement when Dyche left?

To me, with Coleman - it's felt like he's had a long send off. He's barely had a kick the last few years. Didn't he start out the blue vs Southampton when he was very clearly unfit, hobbling around the concourses the week of the game only to start the last game at Goodison, only to last about 15 minutes before having to go off? I recall thinking it was a token start and that'll be the last we see of him.

I'm sure a testimonial will happen at some point.
I'm not sure I'm really into any of these long goodbyes to be honest, probably just being miserable but I'd prefer players to have an exit more like Mad Max in Mad Max 2, I'd respect that.

Should have been introduced before the game.
The people involved in thinking that the crowd would be there 30 mins after that performance really don't get football.
Fans have nothing to apologize for, the players and the club shouldn't take support for granted with the effort they produce.
Plus the stadium has such poor transport links back to the city centre people have to consider their own lives and familes. Fully agree fans have absolutely nothing to apologise for. Giving Seamus a round of applause before the game makes sense.

People at the club have hid behind him. He’d fronted up over the years more than anyone. Even now they’re pushing Seamus videos on all their channels. It’s always ‘look here’ in the hope we'll forget another year of complete failure

Personally I could care less these days, Hes a decent fella, he was a good player for us as well, it got to a point tho where people would get fed up of the predictable rallying cry routine when he was a regular starter.

When you look at it his biggest accolades seem to be more about either him as a good bloke and being part of a club struggling to stay up and helped to survive , which is sad as it would of been brilliant to see him lift a few trophies.

I feel really strongly on this but anybody who is not embarrassed about the Coleman send off and what went on would want to have a look at themselves and their values, Coleman could have left a number of times and of all the comments I heard about him, I thought the comments from Michael Keane were most striking and thought it showed just how important he was in the dressing room, Keane, in an interview pretty much said without Seamus they would have probably gone down a few seasons ago and if we had went down as most of us know we would be looking at a very different club than the one we have, others have said similar about him.

However, saying all that the club made an absolute arse of it and like it or not us as fans made a bad situation much worse by walking out pretty much en masse. The reaction to it in the media is simply embarrassing, I cringe seeing some of the comments because I know what a brilliant fan base we are considering the amount of rubbish we have had to put up with but Sunday shows us in a dire light and the club really set it up in a way that was always going to make us look bad, he was never going to get the reaction he deserved coming out after 25 minutes or so after the final whistle and that was down to the club. As for Moyes don't even start me on him, yes he has got his job to do but Jake O' Brien was not having a good game, far from it, Moyes left him on to try and nab something from a set piece which tells us about his philosophy on football. I don't believe you can get back face by holding a testimonial (I am not sure we could even get one organised as he is going to be with his new club preparing for a new season), I think you nearly have to let it go and hold your hands up and say as a supporters base and as a club we fcuked up and let down a lad we signed for just £60k from Ireland, not a local lad, that give 17 years of tremendous service to the club and let him walk away after all that to that send off, sorry it is unforgiveable and we're so much better as a fanbase and as a club than that.

For comparison, Baines was a local lad who was easily a much better player.

Retired, didn't want a fuss and realised he couldn't compete at the level required anymore.

Got himself into the coaching team from supporting the academy.

Coleman hasn't been able to play for a few seasons now. Has somehow got Moyes to believe he needs to come on today despite chasing a goal for Europe and then wanted a lap of honour after an embarrassing defeat.

Started the last game at Goodison (a year ago) and had to come off after half an hour.

Somehow able to play for Ireland this season showing he's not helping Everton.

Two possible reasons:

Is this Moyes rewardin
Sorry mate. Edited my post. He sounds like he is, my mistake.

I take you agree with my other points though.

Yes he is a blueand does stuff for charity and high fives the mascots but a legend who deserves this? Not for me.
