Seamus Coleman Calls Time On Everton Playing Career

You've just attached an attack on Kenwright and Moyes (who you backed until lately) to a player who's asked for nothing and given everything.

I dont know what you and other poster's game is here but you're all bang out of order for trying to scapegoat Coleman.

Showing respect for Coleman's loyalty is not an endorsement of the mediocrity of the clubs owners and managers.

Just daft.
Folks are just sick and tired of us holding onto players that are well past their best. Coleman has hardly played the last couple of seasons due to injury and yet was still given a player contract. I`m not having a go at him and appreciated that every time he came on the pitch he gave it his all, but its very frustrating to have been watching him over the last 3 or 4 seasons when everyone could see we needed to replace him and yet still see him get another 12 months. I can see him playing another year or 2 at a lower level, but any club the is serious about challenging at the top end has got to stop showing a bit of a ruthless streak and not carry players in their squad that cannot contribute on the field.

Séamus is definitely a legend. Some of the posters on here obviously haven’t read the plaudits from players, managers past and present, which explain the impact he’s had on and off the field (and that without him, we would have gone down). Don’t believe the haters and WUMs, believe those in the know.

It is many years on but I can still remember Ball, Kendall, Harvey, Royle, Reid, Sharp, Steven, Latchford, Ratcliffe etc. I bet in 20 years nobody remembers Seamus Coleman.

We do things wrong all the time. Back in January we released a 4th kit and it will always be a reminder of a cup game v Sunderland that we were as bad as we could be at home, but never thought of releasing a special shirt for the last game at Goodison or the first at BMD to mark a very special moment in our history.

That was unforgivable. A commercial decision to not play in our home kit at home in such an important game.

That decision would have been ok'd by Moyes too. You can bet on that.

This incident with Coleman yesterday. It's already a lightening rod for a disgruntled fanbase.

The fans being blamed for the lack of a full stadium to honour a fine long serving captain when the club were resonsible for the atrocious lack of planning for his departure and put zero thought into what would happen on the day.

They're going to have to make good on this.

I said yesterday that they should be announcing a Coleman testimonial for the last friendly game of the new season when the wrongs of yesterday can be put right with the cash raised going to EitC and Claire House etc.

It's brought great shame on this club. I expect and demand they honour that man. If they dont we can all see the cut of TFG. Because if there's one thing that even Kenwright got right it was stuff like this.

They just look like uncaring money grabbing scumbags. That's not a great look and these fans will have their number right now.
What a great post this is.

You'd never say half these niceties for any other of our players btw.

Legend is a bit strong given he and we have won nothing this century, not many legends in recent years at Everton. He was a great servant though and loves the club which is something in this mercenary age of footballers.

His freakish goal against Leeds a few seasons back to win a crunch relegation scrap is a high point of recent times for him.

Never mind the word legend. That just muddies the waters.

He put 16 years into this club and they coudn't be arsed organising his farewell.

That's 'kin shameful whichever way you cut it.

They need to put that unholy 💩 show to rest and make this situation good by the announcement of a game in his honour.

Who's the only other current player who deserves the niceties? Probably only Pickford.
No no, any other in the last 15-20 years probably. Do you remember these posts by Dave for Baines for example? Big Dunc, Osman? Were they worse servants of the club, or did they show anything less than their best for us?

Current crop yeah, Pickford and not many others. Keggers is approaching 10 years and he's played with us both in Europe and in several relegation fights, so that's a bizarre thought in itself  Gueye first transferred here 10 years ago but he went to PSG for a few seasons too, but he seems to be a fan of the club itself too, which is great to see.

We have lost a little bit of class since TFG, others would maybe say a tad more ruthless. Remember the statement when Dyche left?

To me, with Coleman - it's felt like he's had a long send off. He's barely had a kick the last few years. Didn't he start out the blue vs Southampton when he was very clearly unfit, hobbling around the concourses the week of the game only to start the last game at Goodison, only to last about 15 minutes before having to go off? I recall thinking it was a token start and that'll be the last we see of him.

I'm sure a testimonial will happen at some point.

It’s not rocket science if the club wanted to do it properly. Do it before kick off. Full house, full squad present and alert, crowd still in good spirits before being let down yet again, and takes the result of the game completely out of it. We’ve all seen the final parade round the pitch become an embarrassment after a crap season. Stupid to gamble on it being all sunshine and rainbows. Also may have meant sticking him on to make one final error would have been unnecessary .

Taking it further, it may have even led to the crowd being more vocal from kick-off. But long since gave up on the club thinking in such performance terms.

Fair to say for a few years now, Coleman’s “legendary” contributions have been off the pitch. I imagine he was pivotal during Covid and relegation fights keeping everyone pointing in right direction.

His regular “look at ourselves in the mirror” speeches became a bit of a joke. But countless players and managers can’t be wrong about his impact behind the scenes. Whether those contributions have been worth his player wages is not my problem.

End of the day, as soon as he announced it, the club socials were brimming with stats, interviews, misty eyed tales and video collages. Then they forgot to actually do the main thing properly. We don’t need our neighbours to point out that it was embarrassing.
