It’s not rocket science if the club wanted to do it properly. Do it before kick off. Full house, full squad present and alert, crowd still in good spirits before being let down yet again, and takes the result of the game completely out of it. We’ve all seen the final parade round the pitch become an embarrassment after a crap season. Stupid to gamble on it being all sunshine and rainbows. Also may have meant sticking him on to make one final error would have been unnecessary .
Taking it further, it may have even led to the crowd being more vocal from kick-off. But long since gave up on the club thinking in such performance terms.
Fair to say for a few years now, Coleman’s “legendary” contributions have been off the pitch. I imagine he was pivotal during Covid and relegation fights keeping everyone pointing in right direction.
His regular “look at ourselves in the mirror” speeches became a bit of a joke. But countless players and managers can’t be wrong about his impact behind the scenes. Whether those contributions have been worth his player wages is not my problem.
End of the day, as soon as he announced it, the club socials were brimming with stats, interviews, misty eyed tales and video collages. Then they forgot to actually do the main thing properly. We don’t need our neighbours to point out that it was embarrassing.
