No one said Sam isn’t a specialist. One of the characteristics of a specialist is to target specific games for points and manage the squad around the others. He showed that yesterday he’s not prepared to mess about and had one eye on the palace game by resting Coleman and taking off Walcott.

Hope you’re joking mate. He should be a specialist in making us play better all around across all games. That’s the point of hiring him in the first place. Of all TOP 7 teams, Arsenal is the easiest to play against once you get into their faces and bully them around the pitch, deny space and frustrate them.
Why don’t he just fill the team with reserve from TOP to bottom if he plans to treat this match as 0 point return? He could have possibly field Tosun and let him gain experience instead since this is a zero return game. How about giving Coleman another 60mins to further build up his fitness with the same logic?

He choose his tactics and believe he can get something from this match and it failed miserably, simple as that.

The journos are not managers, it's their job to toss a spanner in the works. I thought it was an excellent interview and Sam showed a couple of them up for what they were. If some here call our players "shithouses" then why can't the team manager be candid about them? Am I the only one who's proud of the way Sam stood up for the team's fighting spirit in gaining points from losing positions? Love him or hate him, Sam is just venting his frustration like the rest of us. I would have loved to have heard him say we were "phenomenally" bad in the first half.

Some of you lot want to have your cake and eat it too.

Loved the way he accepted his share of the blame most of all - shame he didn't and passed everything on to the players and absolved any changes he made from ofc.

as for standing up for the teams fighting spirit, nope mate, he was standing up for himself by stating that the team had rescued more points from losing positions than any other, heres the thing about that stat though, to rescue a point from losing - it means your initial set up hasn't worked hence why you are losing.

A much better stat is a team gaining points without ever being in a losing position really :)

Anyone who says we weren’t going down before he appeared is wrong. We were going down.

Decent points return since he’s come in. He was given a remit to keep us up this season and he’s ensuring we do just that.

He’s doing the right thing in targeting specific games and abandoning others considering how precarious our position is.

I’d expect him to be in charge at the start of next season because I have no confidence in any of the potential replacements to keep us up.

6/10 for me so far, maybe 7.
Think I disagree with every single letter (and number) in that post.

We're in more danger of going down with that man at the helm than we were before he arrived. He is now losing the players and that will be a disaster.

Your loyalty to him is noble but misplaced. I just hope the board realise that before its too late.

It's not pretty is it. I think the whole caboodle was a joke yesterday from the manager down to the players. Now I agree that Allardyce deserves all the vitriol he is receiving but by god this bunch of cowards have a lot to answer for.

3 tackles in the first half, there is a few clips of Schneiderlin jogging about, not putting effort into tackles, not closing down, turning his back and he wasn't the only one. I don't think I have ever been so disgusted and humiliated by a performance.

Something has to give, obviously the manager will take the ultimate hit but you have to question the players, 3managers now and they are still treating the ball like a hot rock, I've seen 11 year olds with better composure than our lot.

Gana might not be Kante levels but when he's allowed to play his role without that donkey schneiderlin taking half his space, he performs it well and we look much more solid. Michael Keane has been kidnapped and an impostor left in his place, I think he may well be George Weahs cousin.

Williams, what even is he the massive mess, I didn't want him when we signed him but still always thought he looked solid for swansea, he has now also been kidnapped and an impostor left behind.

I'll stop here, you get the gist, we could dissect the whole team, all of them let us down over and over again this season, and let us not pretend that we were all rosy last year, we had horrendous runs then as well under koeman but we got 7th so it looks better than it was.

It is when the two 'wingbacks' are under clear instructions not to go forwards mate, and if they aren't under instructions to do that, then why has it been that way every time Allardyce has played Kenny and Martina and they sit deep?

Completely agree with this. We had 7 defensive minded outfield players on the pitch. It was a spineless selection that backfired badly because the defenders were not used to playing with each other. Pointless playing that front three if we have no means of keeping possession and bringing them into the game. One of our biggest problems currently is the lack of footballing ability in our CM’s and CB’s

Don’t get me wrong I want him out at the end of the season but our position looked terrible after that Saints game and although the performances were not pretty we did get the new manager bounce after he arrived that has pulled us clear of the real dog fight.

Thinking we can set up like Swansea over night just because they won against a shambling Arse team on Wednesday is the true fallacy.

What idiot assumes that the oppo will be the same team with the same tactic as the last time?

They effing lost, thanks to goalie errors among other things, and our donkey management thought that arsenal would not change things up?

Can't wait till we're rid of this mindless fruity machine hitting swindler

..this was an opportunity for him to not just be a survivalist, an opportunity for him to retire with something on his CV that wasn’t just about negativity. He’s wasting that opportunity.
Looks like he does just care about the money.....
