Running

About 15-20 years ago I had a massive nightmare. Something EVIL was chasing me through the woods and I was hauling ass. Got to a point where I stopped to get my bearings and had an epiphany. Said, IN MY DREAM, "wait, I'm dreaming. I don't fecking run". Turned around and died / woke up. Always stayed with me, the absolute disdain I have of running.

My best times - done when I was early 30s:

10K = 37 mins

10 mile = 53 mins

Half Marathon = 1hr 13 mins

Never did a full marathon - which I think is for lunatics

That's probably about or almost club-level pace.

Extremely impressive pace.

Marathons are for lunatics but are a must for most runners. Its a box that just has to be ticked.

One 20 miler was enough for me. The wear and tear on the joints has to catch up with you eventually if you do a few marathons.

Your 10k time let you down there, as in the m/m isn't on the same level as the longer distances. Not your favoured distance, or you only did the one? Seems like a typo.
Very impressive for all of them tbh

Great run that mate, I know a few who did it and they struggled with the conditions, which can be a great leveller for those who haven`t done much in the depths of Winter.

Thanks mate. Yeah felt strong in the main, helps that I've done all my training on the New Brighton coast haha. Nothing will ever compare to the Manchester Marathon heatwave last year for me. Much more suited to the colder weather myself.

On Saturday I took part in the 'Grindleford Gallop', although in my case it was more of a trot and a stroll. A circular route of 34km with 825 metres climbing, it included Eyam, Great Longstone, the Monsal Trail to Bakewell, then over to the Chatsworth Estate, then Baslow. From there it climbed to Baslow Edge, onto Curbar Edge, Froggatt Edge and down into Grindleford. Refreshments were available en route - we stopped for a snack at Hassop station. Only the bit around Baslow was new to me but I'd never done them all together before.

The really keen runners started at 10am, but I was in the OldGits section so started earlier, just before 8.30. The path was muddy in places but there was hardly a cloud in the sky and just the barest breeze - perfect. The views were sublime, far too good to rush past, so we were more leisurely then I expected. Despite that we were certainly the leading group early on as we disturbed a small herd of deer who'd settled down on the path right in front of us.

I took part to raise money for some new schools in Gaza, set up by a brave Palestinian/American surgeon who volunteered in a Gazan hospital during the war but realised he had to do more.

So far there are 5 schools set up but more are planned. They are staffed by Gazans who have no connection to Hamas or any other terror group. They work with the World Food Kitchen, who supply meals - all the other NGOs claimed they were 'too busy' to help. These are the first independent schools set up in either Gaza or the West Bank for 30 years, since the PLO took over following the Oslo Accords and ended academic freedom in schools and universities.

The charity is verified with no money creamed off by Hamas or other groups. It receives no money from any government or shadowy organisation - it relies on individual donations, so every pound is important. I don't want to break any GOT Roolz so anyone who wants to donate directly to them and do something positive for the Palestinian people can DM me and I'll give you a link to their informative website where you can find out more and how to donate.

What a route and such a worthy cause 💙

Did you get any photos ?

Ps - was it waymarked or self navigated - I`ve never done a trail race in the Peak District and I`ve been looking for one that`s waymarked for a couple of years now, that isn`t an endurance test of self navigation !
