Running

The commercialisation of it is really doing my head in.

I would never take anything away from anyone who runs a marathon or anyone who runs and raises money for charity, but a lot of the big marathons now seem to be all about " look at me "/ " look at my kit " / look at my nutrition plans " / " look at my training plans " and " look at me afterwards "

Then take loads of selfies everywhere, just to prove how great you are.

They want to try standing in a muddy field, getting ready to run up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, with a hundred other runners, whilst the rain is smashing you in the face and the check in is a fold down table, manned by a grisly old fell runner, who`s legs won`t work anymore
Spot on... it's not just me thinking that then.

Instagram(ers), my wife has mentioned a few near misses when running either London or Newport when suddenly someone stops in front to take a selfie. It's bl00dy dangerous, could easily pull a calf muscle braking or trying to avoid.
London has properly gone the wrong way now.

And they're potentially doing the event on two days of the same weekend next year. Carnage.

I've seen a rise in "look at me, I'm supporting someone doing the marathon" social media posts which are somehow worse. It's not about you ffs - all you've done is got dressed and walked to a race.

Is it "tech" in the shoes? Or pure talent. Could be a whole new thread just for this

It’s Wednesday and they’ve still got it on BBC news 😂

If next year is over two days, I’m switching the telly off that weekend !

Don't forget we do it all for a cup of powdered soup at the end of it. Or is that an Irish thing?

And don’t forget the social media influencers/aspiring influencers who get sponsored by huge corporations to go to events like these, and use their products… More likes = More $$$. 🤦‍♂️

It’s the unfortunate age we live in now… It’s gotten to the point where they can’t even take a sh.te without it being sponsored! 😤

Third race of the year - Scorton Trail 15K, in the glorious Trough of Bowland.

A really low key friendly and inclusive event, with very few “ elite “ runners and a pack made up mainly of social runners, made for a really pleasant and friendly couple of hours on the hills.

I’d hardly ran at all over the past month due to hamstring and knee problems, so the aim was to get round as a “ tester “ for the next round of races, which I happily did, with no further knee or hamstring problems.

This is a race I’d highly recommend to anyone thinking of giving trail running a go, only one big climb, with the rest being really runnable, on a very scenic course 🏃‍♂️
