Spot on... it's not just me thinking that then. The commercialisation of it is really doing my head in.
I would never take anything away from anyone who runs a marathon or anyone who runs and raises money for charity, but a lot of the big marathons now seem to be all about " look at me "/ " look at my kit " / look at my nutrition plans " / " look at my training plans " and " look at me afterwards "
Then take loads of selfies everywhere, just to prove how great you are.
They want to try standing in a muddy field, getting ready to run up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, with a hundred other runners, whilst the rain is smashing you in the face and the check in is a fold down table, manned by a grisly old fell runner, who`s legs won`t work anymore![]()
Instagram(ers), my wife has mentioned a few near misses when running either London or Newport when suddenly someone stops in front to take a selfie. It's bl00dy dangerous, could easily pull a calf muscle braking or trying to avoid.
London has properly gone the wrong way now.
And they're potentially doing the event on two days of the same weekend next year. Carnage.
