The press all seem to report this as happening today, and don't mention anywhere that an original request had been turned down, so as far as I'm aware, it's the first time we've asked for permission.

One thing that strikes me as strange though is Atletico Madrid aren't a poor club, yet didn't give him a contract after his loan spell there.
