Royston Drenthe

Well I didn't jot them all down in a little diary, but he definitely played a fair few games for us centrally. He also plays for South Africa centrally, so all I was saying (as I clarified already) is that these players are capable of playing centrally and it's not even like they'd be playing out of position. Whether or not you were saying that you don't believe that or that Moyes doesn't believe that I really don't care, the fact is that them going central instead of Fellaini going up top is a very viable option.

This.

I mean, the equation is:

Vic/Donovan/Pienaar/Drenthe upfront centrally > Fellaini upfront centrally

Fellaini center mid > Neville center mid

And yet, Neville came on, and Fellaini moved up top.

WTF?

EDIT: I'm not touching the debate about Pienaar above, but LD has played in that 2nd striker position a ton for club and country. So if you move someone, you can move him. He's used to it, and he does it for LA in the 2nd half a lot. He scored in the MLS Cup Final from that exact role, combining very well with Keane. Saw pieces of it with Jelavic.

To Equaliser's point, I don't mind a 2nd striker like Vic either. I thought that sub was just fine, but too late. Either of those options was better than Felli upfront.

Half a season in 09-10 when Arteta was injured. Won our player of the year on the back of it

He played in central midfield twice in January 2010: Man City (h) and Bimingham (h) (FA Cup). These were consecutive games.
He played the 2nd striker role twice in February 2010: Man Utd (h) and Sporting Lisbon (a) (Europa League). These were also consecutive games.
That's a total of 4 games. For the rest of the season he played wide, on either the left or right.

Dont you know we only played 8 games that season... :p

Drenthe needs to play games, how can he prove himself from the bench, he is potentially our best player. Give him games, give him a contract. What a free signing he would be at such a young age aswell.

My Midfield 5 at the moment would be :-

Fellaini Gibson

Donovan Pienaar Drenthe

I think Drenthe will get lot's of games when Donovan's loan finishes.

Fair enough, hes wank central midfielder then.

no he wont, davey will squeeze in anyone into that position instead of giving him a run in the team, that young up and coming tricky winger Phil Neville springs to mind

Sadly I think seamus will get a look in over drenthe, and we probably wont sign him (FOR FREE!!!!). Hopefully am proven wrong though

He entertains and despite what moyes may think, that is what you have to do to get bums on seats. Erratic, frustrating at times but when he gets that ball things happen. If workrate is the issue drop him behind the striker
