Rooney U23 coach?

There hasn't been a single person from that generation of players that has made a good coach. Rooney, Neville (both of them), Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Keane. All of them absolutely rubbish as managers, despite "talking" a very good game. Tbh, I'm staggered that Gary Neville still gets so much air time considering just how bad he was at Valencia.

You think he's in any physical condition to be showing the strikers how to play football?
DCL, Chermiti and Broja are hobbling around at the moment. He`ll have lots of time on his hands to get himself match fit while all our strikers try and get themselves in condition to fully train themselves.
He`s not done well as a manager, but a coaching role might suit him better as it would be totally working with the players. As there have been many great players who were expected to make great managers and failed, there are plenty of greatly regarded coaches who were out of their depth as a manager. Its well worth giving him a job coaching the U18`s or U21`s, its not like our PL squad would be weakened with the lack of players stepping up into the first team, as they are few and far between. We`ve given a chance to plenty of ex players, who achieved very little success in their playing time, who were desperate to get a job coaching after their career finished, it would be a change having a player who won plenty during his career at the club.

Do other clubs have such an obsession with bringing back ex players? It is great on one hand to show offer such loyalty. This guy couldn't leave quick enough and returned slowly. Let him do his thing at Man Utd.

Not everyone is gonna make the transition to post playing career like Fernando Torres or Mesut Ozil, some will make the transition like Ronaldo, Samir Nasri, or a Wayne Rooney. We can't made sound judgements based on their appearances, Rooney has taken over at troubled clubs everywhere other than in the US. He seems like that one chick who thinks she can change a bad boy. Football coaching-wise, we are not sure about his actual talent. He maybe worth a punt at the youth level. All legacy clubs have some form youth coaching setup led by their legends. We should not dismiss it as out of hand.

Great players in any sport don’t automatically translate to the same success as manager. Completely different set of skill sets. Seeing Rooney’s initial stint as gaffer of a lower league club isn’t enough to judge him on. But to me it’s an initial indicator he may not be up for it.
