Rooney (18 months left on a contract)

You apparently don't understand the words "All things being equal."

One more thing I've got to explain to Brennan.

I've known plenty of people who've turned down jobs because of the amount of compensation wasn't enough to compensate for moving, changing schools, having children have to make new friends and leave old ones behind, etc, etc....

Hate to disappoint you but that guy not only exists in my world, but I know quite a few of them.

I don't think there's a single person in this thread who has said they'd turn down a job offer if the salary increased three fold and everything else stayed the same. You know why ? Because that's not relevant to Rooney at all, or this discussion.

All things would not be the same if Rooney moved to Everton. He'd be playing for Everton and not United, for a start.

Right, but surely the whole point is that all things aren't equal?

Obviously if the choice was job 1 at club 1 under conditions 1 for 5k vs job 1 at club 1 under conditions 1 for 14k, it's pretty simple.

But that's not the case. Man U aren't Everton aren't Chelsea etc, etc.

...yet there are those who are disappointed that he wouldn't outright reject a pay raise so he could play for Everton.

I think it's pretty simple too, just not the way that most on here would think.

He's a professional and he's driven by what he and his advisors think is best for him financially, reputation and status.

As in business, emotion should not cloud judgement.

aye agreed

but i think a large amount including me just thought that he might want to live his dream once more as everyone has a dream.

Sure it's relevant. It's 100% relevant to the conversation. How could it not be?

Again, it's the do as I say, not as I do.

So if I get you, people on here wouldn't reject the pay raise but expect that Rooney should because he's got all the money in the world, or because he loves Everton, or whole host of reasons that someone could try to rationalize with.

Makes. No. Sense.

Bingo bango !!!

That would be good advice for GOT as well Esk. "Emotion should not cloud judgement." That's good signature material.

Agree it would be a great story, but I remember my first love, splitting up with her, having other relationships and then going back to my first love (before mrs the esk came along lol) - wouldn't recommend it to be honest...

Because nobody is saying they would turn down an offer of a new contract with better money simply because. They're saying they'd turn it down in favour of a move to Everton.

I don't think anybody expects Rooney to turn it down in this thread either, just some people are disappointed that he hasn't.

Because playing for everton isn't playing for Man U, All things aren't equal.

It's like if you started working for a communist politician because the pay is great. It doesn't make you a bad person but it does mean we can reavaluate how much your right wing principles actually matter to you compared to getting money.,

Rooney has been telling people ages how much he loves everton and would love to play for us again. And he's proven that actually he'd rather have 50 million more instead. That tells us something about his character that I don;t think is universal to everyone ever.

so if he did turn utd down and sign for everton he is mad as a box of frogs then?

Not necessarily.

If he feels that at this point, he's well taken care of for the rest of his life financially (assuming he saved and invested wisely and is wise in his spending habits as well), then he may well say that he'd like to finish his career for us for say 100k a week, knowing he could have earned more in the long run.

Everyone is different in that respect and finishing his career for Everton may be more important for him than earning 250k vs. 100k a week.

I don't know Wayne Rooney, or his family, or his advisors, but he'd have some hard decisions to make.

still a great shag though i bet?

joking mate

i think if he came back it could earn him more money than utd are offering in the long run think of the headlines and if we manged a trophy the press would be all over him.
