Excuse me, but that sounds like a fundamental change to what went before to me.
As for the different tempo played this season: that is down to a lot of key injuries to players who can drive that tempo on.
There's no question Martinez shoulders a lot of blame here, but to deny the relevance of his first season as a reason to pour scorn on the people calling for his head right now is ridiculous.
In a way last season was the worst thing that could have happened to Martinez ...and Kenwright. If we look at this in the context of having had
Moyes for 10 years even with the ups and downs in those 10 years; The general trend was that we were in a better place after 10 years than when
Moyes took over.
Lets not forget Moyes chose to go which left Bill with a problem of filling that void. Bill knew he had to choose a manager that had a long term vision, someone at the helm to be there for another 10 years - the way Bill likes it because it means less difficult conversations for him. To have that first season with RM, took everyone by surprise. Whereas Bill would have expected a slow burning, upward trajectory, re shaping of the EFC identity over several seasons - based on the job interview and vision/strategy presented to him by RM.
The fact that last season happened albeit against a back drop of inheriting a team already match conditioned and fit from Moyes, a premier league where key rivals were poor, and not withstanding the fact that in quite a few games we were gash; has interrupted that process.
IMO I agree that a club in our position should seek that stability based on a vision, but that RM was the wrong choice. However what I/we all think is irrelevant for now.... Bill will hold the burning candle until the heat becomes too much too handle.
