Roberto Martinez discussion

he has unseated himself ffs! You are talking about a guy who will willingly relegate our football club for his own philosophy of how the game should be played. Wigan stood by this chump and look how he repayed them off-ski to the bigger pay check! He will do the same to us if we allow it "mutual consent" before the derby.Club first

Pulis has got a tune out of Anichebe.

Just saying.
I heard that the most a striker has scored in the prem in one season under pulis is 11, as a goal scoring striker doesn't seem to be a huge issue for pulis's tactics big vic could be onto a winner, just hold the ball up and make a nuisance of himself, if he stays fit and motivated he is capable of that

I look at Martinez and though I like him, watchwords like "Wigan" and "Relegation" always flash up in my mind whenever he speaks. I never felt this trepidation, even during the darkest days of Moyes. You just knew Moyes had the strength of character to galvanise his players, and you also knew the players played for him. He had strong characters in the dressing room: Arteta, Cahill, Stubbs, Kilbane, Weir, Carsley, Ferguson, Howard etc. Players who were up for the fight. The football we play under Martinez this season is slow, trepid and toothless. There is no penetration.

I just hope the trip to Qatar allows the management and the players to put things right. I really do.
Excellent post and really sums up how I feel, maybe its a nervousness that we've not been used to for a while. However in just one season martinez got me more exited to watch Everton than I have been since the 80's. Guess that's why its so hard to understand what's going wrong?

Like you say, hope something posative happens in Qatar.

I think with the squad we have, we would be better off without Martinez. Hardly any of the players look comfortable with his style of play. I fear the coming weekend we will see much of the same, teams below get wins then the argument that we are 12th is out the window, next Sunday we will be saying `its ok we are 15th and still in the Euro` with 3 difficult games in front of us. Last time we played Martinez looked a forlorn figure on the touch line, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Moyes `Grim reaper` in the crowd next home game

They looked ok with it last season when they all embraced it and ran up a record 72 point total.

Agreed. Somethings changed. I've still have a couple of games still on my sky box. Take the newcastle games. The season before we clicked and kicked on with passing and power. This season from the off (apart from Wolsburg home) we've looked like OAPs in line for they're pension. One season can't knacker pro footballers or has the training changed to add more and more fitness to cover for Europa Leaugue and having an opposite effect. Looks like it, but on the management and players can answer that one.

Learning curve for all concerned.

We deal with it and move on.

How often did our leading striker score eleven or more goals in a season under Moyes, I wonder?

Not many, I would have thought.

I hope Victor comes good.....always thought his hold up play was good.

Tactics have changed from last season tho. He didn't change too much last season. There's a myth devoloped here that under moyes we played boring direct football week after week, which simply isn't true.

RM added to what we already did. Kept possession more, played more from the back and most importantly went toe to toe with the big boys (which by not doing so was Moyes's weakness)

He's had us playing differently this season (until maybe last couple of games) Slow boring tika taka from the back at all costs. With several key players out of posistion. Combined with awful rotations and Awfull subs.
