Roberto Martinez discussion

One win in 12. If a British manager was at Everton for 18 months with that record most people would be calling for his scalp. Particularly having finished so high last year and spending big money (relative to out budget) in the summer.

Out of both cups, jammy in Europa so far and 3 points from the bottom 3. Not good enough

Not all managers destroy the PL record points total in their first year though. Martinez has also been trying to introduce a completely new style of play that has the potential to move the club forward and excite the fans.

He wasn't a run-of-the-mill managerial switch. He took over after decades of very different managerial approaches, so always going to need an extra bit of time and patience to get things working his way, plus his performance last season and his business in getting players like Lukaku and McCarthy signed permanently has bought him serious time.

I think we've got such a good squad we'll pick up points eventually no matter what.

Even if this run continues until late February I still think we'll beat whoever we need to in order to stay up. It'd be embarrassing if it comes to that though.

Just looked at the fixtures again and did some conservative estimates which saw us netting 24 points before Spurs at home

This included us drawing with Arsenal and Liverpool while losing to United and Chelsea

I had us beating Burnley, Leicester, Sunderland and WBA at home, with the rest being draws and an away win at QPR

That shows that we can realistically give ourselves a good chance of survival with only winning 5 games and grinding out draws

We'll lose more than 2 games between now and the end of the season in the league though I think. If we can win some of the other fixtures though instead of drawing, we'll give ourselves a chance

This is how I see the season now

Our Christmas form made this a survival season, so we now need to pull our sleeves up and grind out the points we need

Worse than Bolton away? Wigan at home? Losing 4-1 to West Brom at home and all those gash matches in the 90s?

Haha, that game always gets brought up but I didn't even think we were that bad that day. Sending off did us over big time.

The 4-0's away to West Brom and Aston Villa were well worse.

Maybe I've just got too much in the team eventually pulling it together. We've probably got every chance of turning over United at Goodison and then go onto lose to Sunderland away.

at least it looks like the players are actually playing for him (should be playing for the club that pays it's wages like), but he needs to get them in at training pull down their trousers and give them a good spanking.

he has his faults with playing players out of a position, but at the end of the day, he can only do so much. you cannot blame him for that first goal where everyone switches off. does anyone remember the first tie where they kept catching us napping from short corners etc. these are professional footballers, making amateur mistakes, they really didn't learn anything.

so many people are at fault for this terrible season. barry (and two others to be honest) standing there like utter mongs watching as their big striker ghosts straight through the penalty spot to stab home. exact replica of the first tie where three people let collins ghost in unnoticed for their goal. our players this season are following einetein's quote on insanity.

he needs to start practising set-pieces in training if he doesn't because that's borderline insanity in itself. we won't get anywhere if nobody can defend them and nobody can score from them. you may get away with it in spain, but not in england with teams like stoke, west ham and liverpool. then again, i'm sure he doesn't get them all to stand there in training get in position and then stand and watch big dunc power headers in for half an hour.

No offense mate but I had us getting 102 points at start of season, it went out the window when Leicester City napped a draw in the first game. Pointless figuring out how many points we will get. Only fixture I would say we can't get points in is Chelsea away, but most probably draw there and draw at home to Burnley.

We will still finish top 10 imo and I fancy us to do well in Europa league for some reason

With a Pulis team coming to town I guess now is as good a time as any.

That game was there for the winning tonight

Blew it.
Didn't make our third sub, even though we were down to 10 men.
At 2 - 1 up Mirallas has it with Naismith in acres unmarked to the side. He opted to take a touch and shoot against the blocking defender.
Individuals and not a team. Have a look over the past couple of months for how often this happens.
Martinez talks of individual arrogance. This approach has ripped apart what we where always so good at. Being a team.
We are in a dogfight no question.
