Roberto Martinez discussion

We are a young team, and if we can qualify for Europe this year that will be good. However, if we don't make Top 4 we may well lose at least 2 players. If we don't make Europe I shudder to think what might happen. I do think this puts extra pressure on Martinez

the difficult start is starting to look a bit small time give that their is only 4 teams for us yet to play, one of which martinez has lost twice to at home in terms of palace and we have also played chelsea UTD liverpool and City at home so we still have to go away to them in the back 19, but you keep telling yourself our first 14 have been harder than anyone elses I would assume that west ham and liverpool would disagree.

Lets say that the term "opening fixture list" comprises of the first ten matches, that seems to be fair as it is a good chunk of the season, that's over a quarter of total games played after all. The opening ten is what I meant originally by opening fixture list, and that is what I originally intended to judge "most difficult opening fixtures on." I apologize for not making it clearer what I meant by opening fixture list, I did not mean the matches we had played up until this point, but rather the matches that had comprised the first quarter of our season.

Everton: Watford(H), Southampton(A), Tottenham(A), Man City(H), Chelsea(H), Swansea(A), West Brom(A), Liverpool(H), Man United(H), Arsenal(A)

West Ham: Arsenal(A), Leicester(H), Bournemouth(H), Liverpool(A), Newcastle(H), Man city(A), Norwich(H), Sunderland(A), Palace(A), Chelsea(H)

Liverpool: Stoke(A), Bournemouth(H), Arsenal(A), West Ham(H), United(A), Norwich(H), Aston Villa(H), Everton(A), Tottenham(A), Southampton(A)

All told, I would argue we had the most difficult start of the three, more so than West Ham and Liverpool as you argued. There isn't much cause for concern for me, as we are within striking distance of the European places with a promising run of matches.

And their is my point, we do have promising run of matches, can we win them, if not can we win a good chunk of them, or will we continue our past 18 months of form and win about 33% of them which won't get us anywhere.

If you can find ONE post of mine that says I expect to win every game then I will change My Avatar to what ever you want for the rest of time, I'm simply saying that when referring to our form as good enough to want to play a fellow PL team and not only that, the title favorites I wouldn't consider 2 wins in 7 as good form against our peers (If you want to count norwich as a win fair enough) but that doesn't do it for me, so stop 'alerting me' as i feel obliged to reply due me being a polight person.

That's why I put that in brackets, to reference the fact that it would be unfortunate for us to go through between now and December, it would of been easier not to reference it. I want Martinez to win every game, then I'll look stupid but MUCH more importantly we don't have to have a continuous run of Everton ruining our weekends. But I don't believe Martinez is capable of that. As I've said a thousand times....time will tell, but I have been saying that since the early part of last season and time has told us, thus far, that things aren't getting much better.

This is very much about people's tolerance to what's being served up. I think it is and has been for a good while.

Anyone else getting flashbacks to the "Lukaku's goals in the cups don't count"/"yes they do" arguments that occupied many a long winters evening last season?

Hahahaha.

The players appear to have good self belief this season so I think we will win the majority

to be fair saying being 9th is 'very promising' and 14 games is a 'start' doesn't suggest that you're looking at this very objectively. Being in a semi is good, some of our performances have been good, but this whole 'why are you moaning?' Thing really grates on me. 9th is nowhere near good enough for this side. Drawing at Bournemouth is not a disaster, but coming on the back of dropped points against Watford, Swansea, West Ham, etc it is clearly going to annoy people. It's bizarre that people can't comprehend how fans can be behind the manager but disappointed with how things are going.

I think it is important to remember that we are only two points off sixth, and if we don't concede a bone headed goal in the 97th minute to Bournemouth, we are sitting sixth and things look a sight different. But I understand your point

Again if you can find a post where I say 'I expect to win every game', also this makes you look just a tad silly, because I doubt you'll find an Evertonian on this board that doesn't want us to win every game.

Bravo on the research though.

I do think part of the problem is Martinez has raised expectations. When he came I said to my dad "I don't really care where we finish, as long as we win 4-3 sometimes, and lose 4-3 sometimes". Then we had such a great season in 13/14 and expectations were raised. Now he has Barkley, Stones, Delofeu and Lukaku and we expect a lot more, even though we have spent no money.

That's fair, I agree that we have to see how the Christmas period goes before we can make a definitive judgement on the first half of the season, but I have confidence that Bobby will manage us to a very good Christmas, a confidence I suppose you do not share

No mate, but cup ties definitely do.

So he had a lot more than 12 wins last years and more than 5 this present year.

I agree completely, and that's why I'm not panicking or going mad about things, but it's also worth noting that we're 3 points off 13th and another season in the bottom half is not an appealing prospect. At the moment I'm positive, but let's not kid ourselves that we're flying.

Tough one, we have Palace and Stoke, 2 teams we struggled against last season although we beat palace away we did lose to them in a massive game the season previous., we all want everton to win, we hope everton will win, but as I have said loads of times this is the best squad I have ever seen us have and I can't see anything but it falling appart should we not get at least top 7 this season and I have no faith in Martinez providing that, But I hope he does.
