Roberto Martinez discussion

Every squad we've had since the 80s is always described as the best one since the 80s.

It's a young squad that sometimes plays with naive abandon. As Wooly said earlier: you take the rough with the smooth of it until they get experience.

We're on the right path headed in the right direction. It's all good.
Agreed. I only hope the talent Everton has gathered sticks around to realise the potential. My fear is they won't. But I'm not losing any sleep over that. There is no chance of Everton ever winning the league so I understand our top players' desire to move to clubs that might. In the meantime though, I'm happy with a top 10 finish and a decent crack at the domestic cups.

I don't want just a top ten finish for the rest of my life

Roberto's good but let's be honest - iff we stumbled on a world-beater of a manager the bigger boys would be queueing up to take him off us. So no point in getting upset.

Roberto Martinez insists his Everton players must learn from conceding late on against Bournemouth.

The Blues looked like they had snatched a dramatic victory at Dean Court when Ross Barkley fired home from inside the box.

But Junior Stanislas headed past Tim Howard in the final seconds to claim a point for the Cherries.

Martinez, while disappointed, admitted the result must serve as a lesson for his players.

“The first goal that they scored is a world class finish,” he reflected. “But it could have hit the post and gone anywhere. Then the cross for the third goal is a hopeful one and the finish is a disappointing one for us. But it came from momentum and throwing bodies forward.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t defend that action. Overall, to start in the manner that we did, getting the two goals, then the reaction to them coming back at 2-2, means it is very tough to not take the three points.

“This needs to get us more determined and have a stronger desire to win games in the Premier League.”

The Blues boss added that his side should have come away with all three points, after going ahead through Ramiro Funes Mori and Romelu Lukaku, and then again via Barkley’s late strike.

“Take nothing away from Bournemouth, they got themselves back in it,” continued Martinez. “But that is when you get tested and you find out whether you have that winning mentality. To get that third goal was a big moment in the game.

“But straight after, we start the play with an extra defender, and all we need to do is see the game out.

“It’s a hopeful ball into the box and suddenly it is in the back of the net. That’s what happens in football. Bournemouth got that little bit of luck.

“From our point of view, we felt that we lost two points at two stages in the game. That is a feeling that is difficult to explain.”

I remember saying get him off get him (from my arm chair watching my dodgy stream) during the Swansea game for about 10 minutes every time I seen him, did the same this one for. Still really like Martinez but I'd love him to explain why he didn't take him off, He looked extremely tired and was being had off every time down his side.

I really rate Bobby as a manager and I think his ability to nurture the youth and play attractive football is exactly what we need. However he does have some limitations. The most frustrating one is his late substitutions and playing players out of positions. We were set up for failure with Kone on the wing. As odd as it is to say it: KONE IS A LUXURY PLAYER. He can only be played when we will boss 65% of the possession and his terrible defending is not needed and he can basically be a second striker. After the first half it was clear that bournemouth was going to be battling hard and that Galloway was playing poorly and Kone was even worse. We needed to bring on Cleverly or Mirallas to shore up the left wing. This did not happen and the whole team ended up playing like [Poor language removed] in the second half.

This was a fair result, but so frustrating.

Just sick of getting your hopes up with this club, any tin pot club that is getting tonked more than a thai ladyboy is guaranteed to get a result against us. 1 step forward and 2 steps back, massively frustrating.

We gave up control of the game mate in the 2nd half and looked lost in the last 15.
We should have seen that game out today quite easily but heads dropped.
Agree we sat back in the second half, gave up possesion and tried to play on the break. I can understand the reasoning, often people say it is how we play best, and we had a couple of chances to make it 3-0 that if scored should have put things to bed.

Just think we sat back a bit too much and McCarthy going off plus Kone/Deulofeu tiring hindered it even more. That first goal was a beauty but with a bit better concentration we should have been able to stop the other two going in.

Think that is different that giving up and letting heads drop though. Particularly when they equalised thought we made a determined improvement in our efforts resulting in Barkley scoring, which we then screwed up again by some sloppy play!

Not arguing that we should have seen the game out, just disagree that there was a character collapse.
