Reality Check - what is successful for Allardyce?

I think Leicester and Watford will be our biggest challengers to 7th (which should definitely be the aim now.) I don't want to dismiss what Burnley have done but in all likelihood they will fall away over the second half of the season. It's obviously a shame that we were hoping to compete with the top 6 this season and will come nowhere near close enough but repeating a 7th placed finish and having a real go at the FA cup (obviously the draw makes that difficult) keeps us ticking along.

A long overdue return to Wembley and 7th would do nicely.

I would back us in a final against most teams due to Sam's big game tactics and the winning mentality of the likes of Wayne, Davy and Gylfi

Success for Allardyce has always appeared to be the same historically; Stabilize a struggling team and get them out of the drop zone. Anything else beyond that would be regarded by most as a bonus. In other words, doing simply what was demanded of him by his employers, no more, no less.
As to what his own actual thoughts on his own goals in life are, you would have to ask him yourself. All we have is his past record as a manager, and none of that included ever managing a team of Everton's size and stature. Maybe he will do something different, or, more likely, he will just manage the one and only way he knows how. This might well bring success for Allardyce, but that does not mean the same thing as what most of us would deem as success for Everton.

You know what, I'm just goiing to give up supporting then, no point is there, cripes alive.

No one saying that you should give up. Unfortunately we are like supporters of the the 86 other teams in the league. We are miles off ever winning the league, and the chance of champions league football is slim / a seriously freak season.
Fa cup and league cup should be our major target each season. We should play our strongest sides unless we are facing relegation. Finishing 7th / 8th is par for the course (should still be targeted this season) and anything above that is over achievement.
That, unfortunately, is modern football.

We spent 60 million net mate, I know some of that comes from Sky etc but he's definitely invested his own money 100%.

Not to buy players so much.

He gave us an 80m loan which people often overlook, this allowed us to pay off debts, sack a few managers and left our cashflow in a very healthy place.

As well as the Sky money increase we have increased ALL our commercial deals in terms of the SportsBeans deal, the flappy birds and the USM FF deal, some of that, mostly the USM part is "Moshiris money".

Then theres a the 60m overdraft from the Chinese fellas, all in all the club has in theory "spent its own money", but Moshiri has allowed this to happen due to his backing and cash injection.

Anyway 3 points off Watford, wish their mutant fans were still on here so I could laugh at them when we overtake them on Wednesday.

We will overtake Burnley some time just after Christmas then its about trying to catch Spurs or Arsenal which I suspect will be a bridge too far this season.

Basically we should finish 7th, again, which considering all thats gone before will be a very good finish for Sam and will certainly get him Season 2, of course the Winter Transfer must be a roaring success otherwise we can look forward to staying where we are.

I think we will end in seventh. Next four games are critical. If we can get ourselves 8 points or more from Newcastle (A), Swansea (H), Chelsea (H), West Brom (A) then we will be in pretty good shape

When did you get all sensible? Asking for a friend.

Was just having a look through last years stats. On the 2nd January 2017, we were on 30 points. We are currently on 19 points and there are 6 more games till the 1st January 2018 so if we manage to get 11 points out of them 6 games, we will be in the exact same position as we were last year when we went on to finish 7th and that latter part of the campaign included a pretty crap run of form too as i recall. Incidentally, this time last year (16 games) we were on 23 points so we are 4 points less now than then. 11 points out of 18, tough but doable though all the same.

Right now with us being only 4 points behind LCFC, not getting 8th would be a massive disappointment. That leaves 7th, which is about the same as 4th right now. But one of those teams is likely to falter, and most likely Burnley, we are 9 points back, and their next 2 fixtures arent particular hard, but after that 4 of their next 5 are against the top 6.

Plus we only play 3 matches against top 6 teams after January 15th, and we get another shot at Burnley.
