Brexit fed the little englanders, who had been pretty quiet and small in numbers, but now they are emboldened by the rhetoric from the last government and indeed starmer has not helped. We are now seeing the results.
Sadly, Ireland is also seeing a rise in far right thuggery, which has not been an issue here since the Blueshirts of the 1930s. The causes? One of the biggest is a gross failure of successive Governments to tackle the housing problem - we have huge numbers of homeless while thousands of properties are empty. This has festered resentment, but has also fed those who have a racist agenda, and they are being successful in inciting idiots to join in violent attacks on proposed centres for accommodation of asylum seekers and the Gardai in particular.
Starmer (nor his government) can be justifiably blamed for any aspect of the current situation.
That’s just nonsensical political opportunism, offered only by the right wing nut-jobs.
As far as the situation in Ireland goes, I think it’s a totally different kettle of kippers. My other half is from Booterstown, so I do have some insight.
The economy over there has boomed compared to the UK. At one time, a trip to Dublin was cheap, now London is a bargain by comparison.
Any successful economy will attract migrants, Ireland are currently learning the ups and downs of being hugely successful.
I agree that the lack of an appropriate housing policy has made the situation in Ireland, far worse than it need be, but that is as a result of economic success, rather than what applies in the UK, which is total and utter failure.
