'Project Big Picture'

A red snake.

David Conn is one of the few who still fail to acknowledge the real purpose of the discredited FFP was to protect the European elite cartel of clubs from any potential noveaux riche, to prevent the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City or any other club being able to compete or in effect join via being taken over by a moneyed owner.

That too was brought in under a well marketed disguise, the sudden need to protect the less wealthy over spending and over stretching themselves. The likes of Bury etc showed how effective it actually was to warding off unscrupulous owners while the real purpose of protecting the wealthy worked a treat.

That disgraceful legislation has now been totally discredited and in effect worthless, City were targeted by the elite as a final stand and they lost. This new project is a sort of replacement vehicle for the now unworkable FFP, the elite need a new method of protection and a new disguise. David Conn looks to have fallen for it once again, if it's sweet enough the poisoned pill may be swallowed by many more.

I think that's basically what is being pushed, the champions league will have 8 groups of 6, they each play each other twice, top 2 go through to the last 16, place 3 and 4 will drop into the Europa league and 5 and 6 will drop into the new European conference (new cup winners cup).

Premier league will probably still only get 7 European places, it will just be 6 champions league and 1 Europa league.

Who in their right mind would be arsed about a third European competition...

'We won the third best European cup'

:drunk:

"Those nine clubs are to be afforded ‘long-term shareholder status’, would have unprecedented power, even able to veto new owners at other Premier League clubs, decide on the chief executive"

Rick Parry backs what Man U and the RS have put forward, hmmmmm...............promise of a job I wonder.

Martin Samuel unlike David Conn was spot on with FFP and no surprise he's seen through this too tbf

Erm, us, we won the Cup Winners Cup in 1985 :celebrate:
Uefa are putting it back in as lots of the members, outside the top 10 nations want a chance to participate in a European competition and accept that they are not going to either win the champions league or Europa league

That was a very different time.

Stinks to me of a participation medal.

Kinda snakish. But the monetary value is the selling point that not many can argue is a bad thing. It's the concessions it's based on.

No one is asking the reason WHY those changes in the structure of the premier league are needed. Are they saying that in order to increase the funding to the EFL 2 clubs have to leave...and the longest serving clubs dictate how the league is ran?

Absolute horsey poo

Always knew he was a snake.

It's a power grab coated with sugar, there has to be some attraction, some colourful coating, some really attractive outer layers, how else would anyone swallow such a poisoned pill?

It's a naked power grab dressed up to look like a rescue package, it would in effect give the top six total rights to run the premier league, appoint the leading administrators and change the rules or format.

Crucially it needs only six of the nine clubs to pass anything so having nine is just window dressing to make it more palatable.

David Conn fell for the FFP disguise, the cartel of elite clubs needs such serious journalists to perhaps too readily fall for the intentions being as advertised, dismissing any elite cartel protectionism as some fanciful conspiracy theory invented by others.

Now FFP is so largely ineffectual and discredited, the club's are formulating their own tentative plans to protect the European elite group of clubs, this power grab by the top six under the guise of a rescue package seems to be meeting with the same success from the same journalists who so easily fell for the FFP trick.

The elite clubs will find a way when journalists like Conn fall into line.

Martin Samuel saw through FFP and has written against this latest version too.

This proposal is going nowhere mate. No chance it gets 14 votes, I don’t think it’ll even to get to a vote either, it’ll be killed at the next PL meeting. Not least because the RS & United have pushed this out there without PL agreement and approval.

They’ve flown a kite and it’s had its strings cut, as they completely misjudged the intelligence of the collective game. A massive error on their behalf as they’ve now clearly shown their hand and their joint aims & it’s extremely ugly.

This is what happens when you get Sherman franchise holders involved with a game that still has community and the collective at its core.

I note that West Ham, one of the ‘special’ 9 have already come out and said this can get right in the bin.

The 6-1 and 7-2 thrashings of the two teams in question had absolutely nothing to do with this right?

Kopites shall be ribbed on for years to never forget the time they cried in man utd arms and then after a few drinks of both drowning their sorrows, they jumped into bed with eachother after decades of feuding like a cheap episode of eastenders.
