Potential new Formation and Teams

Thought he looked very average last year in the majority of games, good squad player but should be phased out now.

Looks like Bob's remit is to upgrade an ageing squad with youth. Kone notwithstanding as a short term slotter needed to fill last season's major deficiency. Deulofeu is surely back up for Mirallas's hamstring. No sign of a long term future as automatic first choices for the following, all of whom might move on for regular footy in my mind:

Duffy
Hibbo
Osman
Pienaar
Jelavic
Anichebe
Naismith
Vellios

Most of these don't feature in people's line ups.... That can't be good news for them

He has played 4-3-3 at Wigan, so Mirallas and Deulofeu flanking Kone seems quite feasible. A midfield three of Pienaar, Fellaini and Osman could keep things neat and tidy in the middle of the park, threading balls through to the forwards and allowing the fullbacks to overlap.

Doesn't Deulofeu normally play on the right? If so, I would swap him and Mirallas over, because Kev looks more dangerous on the left IMHO.

Having said that, I feel uneasy looking at the midfield trio of Pienaar, Osman and Felli. I just don't think Ossie or Pienaar have the pace or the engines required to play this type of CM role, and both are somewhat lightweight in the tackle. Could it work with Barkley and Gibbo replacing Osman and Pienaar?

I feel so silly doing this, but I haven't seen my preferred one yet and I've got some time to kill, so I'll put it out there.

Firstly, don't be daft, Pienaar plays ffs.

Also, I'd like Kevin, as our most dangerous player, to be played in the hole and given freedom to do whatever he likes with no defensive responsibilities as, if we're being honest, he clearly ain't 'bout that life.

If we sign Moses or another good right winger, he comes in for Deulofeu, but until then he is ahead of Naismith.

Felli box-to-box so we can enjoy the best of both worlds with the lid. Possibly with more of an onus on his defensive duties though as we have quite a few bodies up there.

Gibson in front of the back four trying his boss diagonal long balls and starting/breaking up attacks with Fellaini.

Back four as per.

This will not happen like. I actually suspect RM will favour the three CBs formation and bring Alcaraz in, which I'm not sure about but he's the gaffer and knows best I guess!

I agree with that except Pienaar for Mirallas. Kev's our most dangerous player imo, I'd rather he was in his favourite position.

Had a look at our formation under Moyes, using the players we've brought in.

We often played a 4-2-3-1, or a variation thereof (4-4-1-1 for example); here's how i think that could look now:

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines

Fellaini Gibson

Deulofeu Mirallas Pienaar

Jelavic

With a few minor tweaks depending on how we're playing at the time, or if we break away that formation could easily become:

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines

Gibson

Fellaini Pienaar

Deulofeu Jelavic Mirallas

Then you've the more 'experimental' formations like so:

Howard

Alcaraz Jagielka Distin

Coleman--------------------------Baines

Gibson Fellaini

Mirallas---------------Pienaar

Jelavic

Howard

Alcaraz Jagielka Distin

Gibson
Coleman-------------------------Baines
Fellaini

Mirallas Jelavic Deulofeu

Howard

Alcaraz Jagielka Distin

Coleman Fellaini Gibson Baines

Deulofeu Jelavic Mirallas

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines

Fellaini Gibson

Mirallas----------------------Pienaar

Jelavic Kone

Howard

Alcaraz Jagielka Distin

Coleman---------------------------Baines

Fellaini

Mirallas------------Pienaar

Kone Jelavic

Deulofeu probably won't be a starter, and most of you will prefer Kone of Jelavic but these are just examples, so don't get your knickers in a twist!

The good thing is we've more options now under Martinez. Granted, they were there under Moyes, but in 11 years, we must've played about 4 different formations tops.

according to fifa13 our best line up according to rating is ...
4411
................howard
hibbert jagielka heitinga baines
mirallas gibson osman pienaar
.................fellaini
..................kone

the one i played for a few games was....
5221
..................howard
........alcaraz jagielka distin
coleman.......................baines
............barkley fellaini
.......deulofeu..........mirallas
....................kone

and i loved it :) just seemed like i had extra players in every area

nice where u get the layout from?

Here man: http://lineupbuilder.com/

I'm liking this a lot, I assume we've got Deulofou partly because Martinez has agreed to play him fairly regularly.

It will be very odd to see 3-5-2, or 3-4-3 being utilised at Everton, still don't really remember what Alcaraz is like but I did hear he's the sort of player who passes it out of defence. I expect Martinez to stop this nonsense with our CB's booting the ball forward as well (hopefully anyway!)

I would however like to see Pienaar play in a role more centrally, but not all the time. Mirallas seems better on the left. So I'd swap Deulofeu for Pienaar and that would be my team.

One of the things I'm looking forward to most mate. We've got midfielders who are good on the ball and we don't need to bypass them all the time with hoofs out of defence.

Looking at all these variations is making me more certain of one thing - I like the Deulofeu signing. If he's good enough to start in the RM/RW spot, we suddenly have depth and flexibility, allowing us to use Mirallas elsewhere if we want.

So I see a lot of 3-4-3 based on what Martinez has done at Wigan, does anyone truly believe that is a good formation for our current personnel? And why?

I can certainly see us go to it at some point, I just think it's not a good fit.

I think Jagielka's comments yesterday almost confirm it's three at the back. I love the idea of playing this 3-2-2-3 system but only if we can keep Baines and Fellaini.

I really hope we don't go away from 4 at the back. We've had a great defensive record for years and there's no reason to change it. Coleman and Baines are fantastic at getting forward but this is helped by them overlapping, without players in front of them I think their effectiveness would be reduced. We've need a bit more pace and creativity going forward along with someone to finish our chances - hopefully the new signings will address this. We also need to have a more attacking mentality - it was ridiculous how often we'd have teams there for the taking and Moyes would get the players to drop deeper rather than going for the kill
