I'm fairly confident Martinez is going to go for 3-4-3 and I also think it's unlikely Deulofou will start straight away. I've just put him there as this is what I think our most regular starting XI will be for the season as our current squad stands. Martinez handled Henriquez with caution when he took him on loan from United last season and I can see similar happening with Deulofou. Obviously Deulofou will get more opportunities than Henriquez did over the course of the season, though.

That line up above is the right sort of balance, I think. It's vital we get the midfield balance right in a 3-4-3 otherwise we'd be up **** street for every counter attack. All four of those midfielders are capable of putting their foot in defensively. I'm predicting Coleman to be an absolute natural in this system and he could well steal the show in my opinion.

I'm liking this a lot, I assume we've got Deulofou partly because Martinez has agreed to play him fairly regularly.

It will be very odd to see 3-5-2, or 3-4-3 being utilised at Everton, still don't really remember what Alcaraz is like but I did hear he's the sort of player who passes it out of defence. I expect Martinez to stop this nonsense with our CB's booting the ball forward as well (hopefully anyway!)

I would however like to see Pienaar play in a role more centrally, but not all the time. Mirallas seems better on the left. So I'd swap Deulofeu for Pienaar and that would be my team.

Honda has his heart set on Milan so doubt that one. Also think the Barca may need a bit of time and moses is too similar to kev ? May prefer another C M

Oh right, well that's unfortunate, so how do you know Keisuke again?

STOP IT NOW JUST BE HAPPY WE'RE SIGNING PLAYERS. LEAVE IT TO ROBERTO TO DECIDE FORMATION, THIS THREAD IS SILLY!

I would like to hope the 3 at the back approach is a option more so as a change of formation. Think it would be very foolish for Roberto to switch to that when we have been very solid with a back 4 all these years. Not to mention the proof so far is that it's a formation that doesn't tend to work in this country. An option not a solution....

4-3-3 would be the best switch for me or even sticking with the 4-2-3-1 but tweaking the roles of certain players.

......................Howard....................
..Coleman...Jags......Distin.....Baines..
......................Gibson.....................
................Fellaini....Pienaar.............
..Moses..............................Mirallas..
.......................Kone.......................

Robles Alcaraz Oveido Osman Barkley Deulofeu Anichebe

I have absolutely no idea what Martinez see's as his best team or formation. Have tried thinking it through with a few different formations but it's tricky cos there's always someone good being left out. One thing seems sure, it won't be a defensive setup, looks like we're gonna go for it with attacking football. Bring it on (y)

This is exactly I see it unless one of our big players leave.

This 433 is suicidal. 2 very attacking fullbacks with a passer in front?
Pienaar is not exactly a creator. He's more like a runner; being more skillful on the ball does not make you more creative. Same as Fellaini. They need to be very responsible and quickly form a box of 4 in defense or I can see people running directly at the centre.

We have the personnel to play a 4231; but not really in a 433.

Don't agree. Arsenal play with Arteta in the deeper role! Pienaar IS creative from the middle as he has proved several times with us, ok maybe not world class but definately capable of the role as too is Barkley and Osman. The only change maybe there could be swapping Gibson and fellaini around which may work better. Barca's FB's and arsenal's and madrid's bomb on in that formation without it being sucicidal!?!?

I actually think Martinez will have a headache trying to pick a team. We have more options in midfield and the final third and I don't see Victor Anichebe's name anywhere. It's good to have more competition for places but I get the feeling we're going to have one or two unhappy bunnies.

pienaar is better than coleman imo

As a winger/ midfield player yes, but not as a wingback. They'd be used for different reasons, very different players.

Anyone else worried at the moment that we don't have any cover for Felli if he's injured or on a suspension? Love him or hate him, with Pip gone we need another defensive midfielder.

The bench is going to be pretty strong - our achilles heel in recent years - and when perhaps the likes of Leon Osman is a candidate for the bench we have got a very strong starting XI

Robles
Hibbert
Alvarez
Delo
Barkley
Osman
Anichebe

Starting

Usual defence
Mirallas Gibbo Felli Pienaar (or Gerard R Kevin L)
Kone Jeli

Good! All the teams above us have those problems, we have not had them problems for years which has hurt us over the course of a season. It's all very well saying rotate players, rest players etc but if your bench/squad is weak it's a false economy. The possibility of options like pienaar or Osman, kone or jelavic, fellaini or Gibson, Barkley or whoever ect ect... Is very promising.

Compitition for places keeps everyone on the toes. It will be good to see that most of last years team could find themselves on the bench if performances slip. (Obviously still expecting a couple more yet)
